Campaigns Best to Worst

How would you rank the Halo campaigns best to worst?

  1. Halo 2 - 10/10 (The punnacle of Halo gameplay and story)
  2. Halo Combat Evolved - 10/10 (Pinnacle of Halo level design and incredible gameplay)
  3. Halo Reach - 9.5/10 (Cinematic and emotional and a brilliant change)
  4. Halo 3 ODST - 9/10 (Although it was a missed opportunity for a more unique Halo experience it is still a superb game)
  5. Halo 3 - 8.5/10 (Not the trilogy finale the series deserved but still a damn fine game)
  6. Halo 5 - 6.5/10 (Like a horrible fan fiction story wise, but much better gameplay than 4)
  7. Halo 4 - 6.5/10 (Horrendous new enemy design single handedly ruin the game on Legendary, and that’s ignoring the atrocious story decisions and characters)
  1. Halo 3
  2. Halo Reach
  3. Halo: Combat Evolved
  4. Halo 2
  5. Halo 3: ODST
  6. Halo 4
  7. Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 4 (main reason: character development for Chief) 10/10
Halo Reach (main reason: the story) 10/10
Halo 2: (main reason: Arbiter and the Great schism) 10/10
Halo 5: (why not perfect: useless social area levels) 9.5/10
gets assassinated by angry fans and can’t complete the list. Just kidding. You guys wouldn’t do that… right?
Halo 3: (why not perfect: just not a big fan of Halo 3 compared to other Halos for some reason) 9.5/10
Halo 3 ODST: (why not perfect: not a big fan of the semi-open world thing) 9/10
Halo Combat Evolved: (why not perfect: levels are too repetitive for my liking cough The Library cough) 9/10

Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo 4
Halo Reach
Halo CE
Halo ODST
Halo 5

Can you please elaborate because half the game is backtracking through old levels

  1. Halo 2 (Best level and enemy variety, best music, best gameplay, as well as the story being so damn engaging)

  2. Halo: Reach (Best immersion and grit, best set pieces, makes the Covenant feel like the unstoppable threat they’re supposed to be)

  3. Halo 3 (Best story build-up and climax, and best ending)

  4. Halo 4 (Best character development of a Halo story, good level variety with semi-good gameplay)

  5. Halo: Combat Evolved (Great level design, Best twist in Halo, good gameplay)

  6. Halo 3: ODST (Awesome music, great gameplay, semi-decent story, alright level design)

  7. Halo 5: Guardians (Good music, Worst story structure of a Halo game, no character development, most disappointing story, semi-good gameplay)

Halo 2
Halo Reach
Halo 3: ODST
Halo: CE
Halo 4
Halo 3
Halo 5

Halo 5 campaign was not what i expected but still fun, the best imo was halo 3

Halo 2
Halo: Combat Evolved/ Halo 3
Halo Reach/ Halo 3:ODST
Halo Wars

Nothing else really noteworthy.

Halo 3 ODST - the setting sold me I replay this like once a year the level design is impeccable.
Halo 3 - The music, that Halo 3 art style, and Scarab fights who can complain.
Halo Wars - Despite being a RTS the story is unique and I enjoy that the crew saved humanity and nobody knew.
Halo 2 - Besides atrocious enemy spawns this game is great.
Halo Reach - Liked the art style and Noble Squad. Loved the space combat immensely
Halo Combat Evolved - Its a fun game but the level design leaves more to be desired.
Halo 4 - Interesting and fun plot with the Forerunners but the new art style was disgusting.
Halo Wars 2 - Good plot but executed poorly and the cutsceanes are to sparse, you forget what you’re doing sometimes.
Halo 5 - Well “eh” sums it up.

I just explained why I don’t think so to someone on YouTube so I’m here’s a lazy explanation.
3/10 levels recreate previous levels, not half. 1 of those, Two Betrayals, recreates the whole level, except with a whole new enemy type to completely change the gameplay. The second, the second last level only recreates a bit but has a long completely new intro and features different enemy types the whole time. The last level has a whole new part and a whole new epic ending not found in the first level. The bits reused are with whole new enemy types that dramatically change gameplay.
So imo, only 1 of these levels has any warrant of being a copy and paste, and even still it’s quite different. 1/10.

1.) Halo 3 (I have too many memories with it to rank it any lower.)
2.) Halo Reach (Super grim and emotional story.)
3.) Halo 2 (Helped to shape the legendary franchise we know and love today.)
4.) Halo CE (The only reason I’m ranking it this low is I barely remember playing it. Probably because I was super young. Either way it was the first Halo game.)
5.) Halo 4 (I’m not too fond of Halo 4 but I remember being super exited to buy it. )
6.) Halo 5 (Do not even get me started. If it had turned out like the advertisement campaign then maybe it’d be above Halo 4, but the campaign was an absolute dysfunction. The AI are the worst in the franchise, you barely get to play as Chief, plus some of the characters are simply terrible. Not to mention the story feels generally incomplete.

P.S.) Hopefully Halo Infinite will rank at least 4, and listening to 343 address certain things makes me very hopeful. I really think they will do a good job. I have faith.

After thinking for a bit I’m not sure if the Halo 5 AI are the worst in the franchise, but there certainly not the best.

It’s weird to play Halo and feel no connection or emotion to the story, but hey, Halo 5 pulled it off. How this one isn’t at the bottom of everyones list is beyond me.

Gameplay is far more important to me. I totally agree with you, but I haven’t played Halo for its story since 2012 since I’ve replayed all the games so many times the narrative means very little to me. It is still a shock to me just how much Halo 5 feels like a garbage Halo fan-fiction, though, and how little absolutely any of the characters interest me.

I thought I was the only one, I’ve played Reach so many times that I view each mission as either fun or boring instead of a puzzle piece to fit into a bigger picture narrative. That goes double for Halo 3.

  1. Reach
  2. Halo 2
  3. Halo 4
  4. Halo 3
  5. Halo 1
  6. Halo 5
  7. Halo 3 ODST

Halo: Combat Evolved (after Football practice and even traveling around the USA I played this along with the OXM challenges with the original gamerscores.)
Halo 2 (the ability to hijack and damage vehicles)
Halo 3 ODST
Halo 5
Halo 4
Halo 3 (never really cared for Halo 3 or the Halo 4 MP but you said campaign but to me they are both last.)

By that argument, Halo 3 is even worse. With Halo: CE, when you go back to these levels (after you’ve already been through them once before and explored the breadth of them, you go back and see the differences now that the Flood is there. For Halo 3, it’s usually just “Chief, go to the other side of this map that you just went across and do this thing.”
