Campaign works but MP freezes after 1 minute

I just bought Halo 3 as part of the MCC. I don’t have any other DLCs. I’m not able to play multiplayer. I’ve tried multiple times. my game just freezes and audio will continue to play until the sound files end. And then eventually I just see the frozen game. I have to force kill the halo process. This does not happen in single-player campaign. I’ve never had problems with any other games (hundreds).

using a ryzen 3700x, RTX 2080, 16Gb DDR4 @3000, game is installed on an m.2 ssd.

Any suggestions or fixes?

Thanks in advance

Additional info: when it freezes, CPU and GPU utilization goes to 0% but Memory stays at around 1.5GB (varies depending on what map I was playing).

I can’t find any crash logs in \AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\

I will attempt to play without anti-cheat to see if it works. (UPDATE: Useless. Custom game, mp mode, doesn’t use it.) I don’t know how to test if this is causing the issue.

So I notice that when the graphics freeze, I am still playing in the background for about 3 seconds (I verified this by audio being triggered on action).

I’m using the latest NVIDIA drivers.

Sounds like the GPU is either overheating or its the CPU.

Can you try to lower your FOV and resolution?

thanks for the tip. I’ve never had problems with it overheating. rather than lower FOV and resolution I tried with vsync, that usually keeps the GPU from overworking. But unfortunately I get the same freeze, and I can confirm that the GPU didn’t overheat.

Has nothing to do with GPU or CPU usage. I am having the exact same problem -> Began with launch of Halo 3. All of my temps are optimal

1080ti (11GB)
3700x
32GB ram

I have been in contact with support but am still awaiting a respond (Going on 4 days now). I have literally tried everything I could think of to remedy the issue, but alas here I am.

Do you have more than one monitor plugged in? Disconnect extra monitors and see if that helps.
