Campaign where we play the enemy

The first Halo game was released in 2001 and already has a rich universe with a lot of species and stories. 20 years later, the Halo universe grew up with a lot of games, books and comics. With Halo 2, we had the chance to play an elite and fight with the covenant, but since there, we never had the chance to play other thing than humans. That’s a shame when there is so many species and factions.

I would love a game that let us live the big battles in the history and incarnate every species, like the covenants, the floods and the prometheans. We could play as a grunt during their revolution in High Charity, a pirate Jackal, the brutes betraying the elites, the expansion of the flood, the wake of the prometheans … and so much !

That could be done like Halo 3 ODST, a FPS game with weaker characters, or like Star Wars battlefront, a third person shooter with big map and a lot of enemy.

Even without making an entire game with that concept, they could just make an additive campaign were we could play the enemy. Halo infinite is planned for 10 years, they could do it.

And you, would you love to play the enemy ?

I love the idea, and I think it would work well as a fully functioning open-world RPG game. Trouble is, that takes a ton of time and resources and 343 is already stretched to the maximum as it is.

Agreed, and given that Infinite is planned to be a 10 year game, I don’t see it happening in the near future.

Vey sad, but if infinite is really popular that could do a lot to incentivize further investment. I hope that a couple years after infinites release we can start working on other side projects as supplements and complements to the main game.

Yeah that would be really cool! I see this new Halo being a sort of Destiny style game with its storyline where each season brings on a new story and playable missions etc.

They could start by an additive campaign in Halo Infinite, like spartan ops for Halo 4, to see if peoples like it. They did it in Halo Wars 2 nigtmare, I just regret it wasn’t a FPS

Spartan Ops was a cool idea in concept, but clearly didn’t have the momentum to keep going… maybe Infinite will do better on that front.

Spartan Ops’ mistake was being DLC format. It needed more of a live service game and/or GamePass model to be supported longer term. Frankly even with H4 you could see so many indicators that live service was needed to truly achieve their vision for the game and franchise

They did this in HW2 as an expansion where you played the banished fighting the flood and I liked it even more than the main game. I would absolutely love if they did something like that for Infinite.

That’s definitely a very interesting idea. I just don’t see it happening in Halo Infinite or anytime soon honestly.

I personally love the idea of exploring things in an FPS from different perspectives - but I don’t think it should take away from the core of the game. At the very least would be awesome to play as different enemy types in custom games (imagine being able to play as the flood in a custom zombies gametype?). With Infinite being a 10-year commitment and it being backed by the Slipspace engine I do feel these next 10 years we will begin to see the boundaries pushed after the release settles down and I can’t wait to see what comes!

I don’t see it in the base game, but in a DLC, like HW2, that would definitely work for me.

I’ll agree with you there. I missed the boat on really experiencing Spartan Ops. Playing it after the fact, each level in isolation just kinda feels boring and empty without the narrative driving you forward. I gave up after maybe six or seven levels because I got bored.

I didn’t likes spartan ops to, I just made two mission before gave up (but the cinematic were cool).
I will like a new Halo Infinite campaign in DLC where we play the ennemi, but more like Halo3 ODST than Spartan Osp.

This catches my eye a lot and would like to see in some way

In a more technical term, the definition of who is the enemy is dependent on the perspective. As an example, you had the chance to play as Arbiter in Halo 2 who was an enemy in Master Chief’s viewpoint while the other playable character Master Chief was an enemy in Arbiter’s viewpoint.
