campaign variation

One of the most important aspects of the halo campaign for me is that there is variety in both gameplay and environments visited. I don’t want to have that feeling that i am in the same place doing the same thing over and over again

I thought ce did an excellent job with both changing up the environments we fought in and how we fought

for example:

1st mission: your in the pillar of autumn and unsc ship and the gameplay is centered around close quarters

then you transition to the second mission where you are out in an open beautiful environment and you get to drive your hog and participate in open combat with that
then you transition to truth and reconciliation which is a sniper/stealth based mission
i really hope they have this kind of variation or the campaign will get boring fast

I totally agree with you. I do think 343i are taking great care here plus with new enemies, new weapons etc I think we’ll see an insane range of terrain, technology, enemies, tactics and things not yet revealed or thought of.

The inner/outer shell and library-like aspects of Requiem all point to varied flora & fauna. There’s even an ex Industrial Light & Magic creature creator as one of the 343i staff. I think that’s going to lead to great things.

I also think we’re going to see a return to some of the Halo 2 aspects where we went outside the space station, underwater carriage cars etc. I’m also thinking they’ll keep a space battle or two and some warped gravity style Forerunner effects etc.

If Requiem is built to house species from all over the galaxy then it will have habitats and all that encompasses for variation of enemies, NPC’s, environments, level designs etc.

Personally with the team from so many walks of the industry and resources going into this game I think it’s going to be huge with respect to variety and scale.

I’m hoping for a jungle mission.

plus 343 has sparth working for them and if you aren’t familiar with his work he is an excellent environment concept artist

Seeing some of the screen art or H4, I definitely think that 343 has this in mind.

Halo 2’s campaign was similar to CE in relation to variety of environments. MAC station, New Mombasa, Gas mining station, Delta Halo, High Charity, etc. I’d love to have the variety again too. That said, I hope to avoid backtracking through the same level (ie - Escape the Flood infested facility in CE)…while the levels that do that might be nice, it feels like a cop-out.

halo 2

fighting in a space station orbiting the earth

then fighting on the streets of new monbassa

fighting on high charity and installation 05

halo 3

fighting in a jungle and on the outskirts of a city

in a flood infested covenant ship

fighting over a sea coast on the ark, through sanded deserts

each halo ce 2 and 3 have always changed environments through out the campaign, odst is very repetitive but thats not meant to have different environments as its based only in one city, halo reach changes a bit from being on reach to space.

but i entirley agree with you i hope halo 4 also changes environments alot, adds a lotof variety.

As long as it’s just what you suggested.

I don’t like random spawns (think T&R boarding battle) and random geometry (though if it’s controllable like in CE, then it’s fine).

Sure, different maps and settings is a great start, same is objectives, enemies and level design. Halo CE was good, so were ODST too in my opinion, beach assault, dead city and empty streets nightime, under ground networks or high up in the sky crossing skyscrapers ^^

Worst thing that can happen is another Halo Reach: Boring greyish corridors with no freedom or exploration. In Halo 3 you could walk upon mountains, explore, even flank enemies, while Reach was just long corridors like any random CoD clone or cheap FPS these days shudders
