Campaign Update: Odd AI Behavior

I decided to do a run-through after the campaign update to see the new changes. First off, campaign updates are pretty rare, so kudos for the effort. It says a lot and I certainly appreciate that kind of dedication. Overall, the updates seem quite nice; I do like that getting stuck by a plasma grenade is now death and not something that merits getting revived (at least on heroic) seeing as how that’s a fate that has always meant certain death. It just felt odd surviving that. You shouldn’t survive that.

Anyway, the point of this post is that I’ve noticed some pretty strange squad AI behavior since the update. The first thing I noticed is that when you have a squad mate pick up a power weapon, like a rocket launcher, and you get into a Warthog, they’ll often hop into the passenger with their primary weapon equipped. Which is quite silly. I’m driving Vale around as she shoots her SMG with a rocket launcher on her back. I could be wrong, but before the update, I don’t think this was the case. It seemed like they knew better. Then later (this was on Meridian), when we got the Scorpion, Vale hopped into the turret and didn’t fire a single shot the entire rest of the mission. But that was the only time that happened. Later, on Genesis, I had Tanaka in the turret and she fired fine. Only problem was, Buck refused to get on the tank and just followed on foot no matter how many times I told them to get on the tank.

These are just some things I’ve noticed since the update, just thought I’d point them out. Nothing serious or game breaking, just little things. I guess the only bad one is the AI not using power weapons when they’re passengers. Kind of defeats the purpose of giving them those weapons because if there’s one situation you want an AI companion to have a rocket launcher it’s in a Warthog.

I did not know you could arm the AI with different weapons. Would have made the campaign alot easier.
