So I haven’t played Halo CE in a long time, and recently started going through it again on Legendary (In preparation for CEA) and to be frank, I suck.
It’s just too hard now…
I’m actually stuck at the start of Halo where you need to defend the marines in and around the building. The Elites just swarm in from each side of the structure and I die.
Hell, I even tried to run away and got slightly past the part where Cortana says “This cave is not a natural formation ;)” until I realised you need a warthog to jump over a gap and had to run back.
Any tips for me? I’ve completed it before on Legendary, but can’t seem to do it now.

Hardcore way: Memorize where the dropships land and keep running there to take out the Covies as quickly as possible. I suggest plasma pistol + magnum and as many grenade as you can find.
Softcore way (hehe): You can actually jump back up the rocks to where you came from, i.e. your rescue pod’s crash site. Try luring a few Covies to you, jump up there, and take them out from relative safety; if your shields drop, just back away from the ledge a bit more. Rince and repeat.
I hang out on the edge just past where the farthest dropships where they don’t shoot you after that, I rush with the warthog to the very edge of the chasm on the right side, run up, throw a grenade at the elites in that hallway, hit the button, head back to the warthog. After this, I grab the sniper, keep the pistol, and snipe from the top of the mountain to the marines nearest the drop pod. After that, use the sniper to your advantage to keep your distance from the enemies. And that is how I did it.
Pistol and Plasma pistol are your friend in this situation.
Also, a general tip. If you press XXY fast, your weapon will reload while you use your other weapon. It’s great for continuous fire, especially when you fight the flood.
My original tactic was to ditch the marines and return to the big rock that you pass when you first the structure, baited the Coveys, and then used the Plasma Pistol/Magnum combo to pick off the Elites. Make sure you have plenty of ammo if you try this methods. It isn’t fun scouring for Plasma Pistols when four Elites have you in their sights.
