Just to say I played campaign on Legendary.
Damn the open world is so boring. Typical take over the fort and collectathon that every other open world game does. You like trees? You like grey and red buildings? Halo Infinite has you covered.
Here’s what I like
-Enemy variety. The most in any Halo. And all are fun to fight!
-Shooting. Feels good. We knew this from Multi.
-The Weapon is well written i’d say around 70% of the time. (Too many jokes that don’t land)
-Some nice moments in the story for Chief.
Negatives.
There’s three things to do in campaign.
-Take over a fort/FOB.
-Collect things.
-Main Missions. (Which are also in Banished forts/Forerunner structures.)
Marine’s can’t drive and will completely ignore all vehicles that the player isn’t in. So no friendly AI vehicle battles. If you are in a vehicle with Marines… As soon as you get out they also all bail!
While the world is very pretty, there’s next to nothing to do in it. Yes the Halo sanbox is fun, but it’s much more fun when it’s curated and focused in a linear mission where the devs can design every encounter and area to be the most fun and varied it can be.
The boss battles are awfully designed, 343 should look at Nintendo/Zelda to see how to make an interesting boss. Every single one of them is just a bullet sponge, no unique attacks or strategies. They just deal insane damage and take insane damage.
I really don’t see myself coming back after one playthrough. I’m bum rushing the story and armour lockers (that contain no armour). Then heading back to multiplayer.
(I may edit this as people suggest/criticise what I’ve written)
There’s already a campaign feedback thread. That said, I’m only haflway through the first island and largely agree.
The best part of this game looks like it was the 2 starter levels. Seriously trying to save the pelican and just be like “screw it i’m scuttling this ship” was really cool.
Then its like “hey chief map markers!”
The marines being eager to hop out is also very annoying. At least they seem to prioritize putting the rocket launchers in the side sheet. Also marines have no idea how to use the cindershot.

Yeah I wanted to get some other opinions so I can post an updated list on the official feedback.
I do want to just discuss on here too!
Reminds me of Ubisoft open world games but with less things.
Yeah. Part of what bugs me about it is just how artificial it feels.
Like, there’s ‘high priority targets’ who just sit out in the middle of nowhere. Apparently just camping with some friends in the wilderness.
It feels like the terrain off of the roads is very vehicle unfriendly too. I feel like i’d rather hoof+grappling everywhere because vehicles get stuck and flip on everything.
Also night time feels weird too. Its barely darker but the AI just becomes a bunch of blind bafoons.
The problem with the open world (in my opinion) isn’t that there’s no variety in biomes, areas, etc it’s that there’s not a lot to do to actually fill out the open world.
Batman Arkham Knight had the same problem after Arkham City.
Arkham City had a pretty interesting open world to explore, but there was SOOO much interesting stuff to do that it just made the game great.
With Arkham Knight the world was three times the size of City, wasn’t that interesting and 70% of the side missions were “Stop the militia from doing this” “Defuse this bomb that the militia planted” and it got very, very, very repetitive.
Halo Infinite suffers from this problem, the world being boring could be forgiven if there was a ton of fun stuff to do (like Arkham City), but it’s a boring world with boring side missions stacked on top of it.

I already predicted all this, that the main open world loop is gonna be exactly like Just Cause 3, and I was right.
Maybe that’s why I’m still impressed with the game as a whole because I was already keeping my expectations low.
The strong points of the open world : Exploration.
Alot of random encounters you wouldn’t see in a normal Halo game. Hunters fight at Catch Skull. Shielded Grunt hit squad. Cloaked Swordmasters. Priority Targets are mini bosses.
The poor points of open world : omg your vehicle can’t move an inch without getting stuck or flipping.
Also not enough Ghosts lying around for travelling reasons!
just found out that campaign cannot be played offline and so that very much chabges my view. Just wasted £54
