> In Halo 2 and 3, players were given the challenge of finding hidden skulls scattered through out the various levels. This was a lot of fun and gave us something to do other than blast away at covenant scum.
While I welcomed the inclusion of skulls, I felt that it was Bungie’s attempt to discourage glitching and exploration. In Halo 3, this became very evident. They were easy to find and there were invisible barriers everywhere. Instead of having to search on Legendary, you could search on Normal.
> The only thing we had to find were worthless “data pads” that added nothing to the game play and only offered bits of information about the halo lore than we could have easily looked up on a wiki site.
Yep.
> It is my hope in Halo 4 that we see the return of the skulls and that they must once again be found in order to be used by players to modify their game play experience.
They need to be earned like in Halo 2. No more simple detours.
Of course, that does not mean some vain repetitive action like when going for the Bandanna skull (wasn’t difficult for me. I got it on my 2nd try) or for the If They Came to Hear Me Beg achievement. I mean like the 28 Ultra Elites battle in Halo 2. That battle was very customizable since you could move weapons, vehicles, allies, and sceneries to and around the fight location before initiating it. The only problems was that the Elites spawned in waves (had to be killed for more to spawn) and that you couldn’t exit the area without being teleported. Also, the Halo 2 IWHBYD skull was a -Yoink- to spawn.
> It is alos my hope that there will be new skulls available to be collected each with new and interesting affects to game play.
Absolutely. The same 13 skulls for 3 Halo games. That is extremely disappointing.
Blind = redundant and does not add to immersion. It’d have been better if it just took away the HUD, not the model
Tilt = kills game pace, forces use of plasma pistol. Only good thing about it is it’s side effect of making vehicles more durable
Tough Luck (as of Reach) = cheap, they have eyes in the back of their heads, Reach Banshees are extremely hard to hit
Thunderstorm (as of Reach) = unpleasant, makes all Grunts have helmets, for 1 additional headshot, making skirmishes against an army of them very slow, forcing you to use the Needle Rifle’s supercombine
Black Eye (as of Reach) = recharge effect useless since it’s so slow + something needs to be done about keeping 1 Grunt or Jackal alive as you can use them as recharge fodder after killing the Elites and other enemies
Grunt Birthday Party = it was great in Halo 2 but then it lost it’s effective damage and effect on every enemy and then it lost it’s splash damage in Reach, only being graphical
> Even better, these skulls should be able to affect not only campaign, but spartan ops as well.
I thought 343 said that MP had no skulls?
