Campaign should really have fall damage

Noticed multiplayer has no fall damage or probably very little, I dont remember. Infinite’s campaign should not be the same. There are some drastic heights on the Halo Ring and I feel like its going to cut a lot of the game’s function if we can just jump off anything and land like if we are spiderman. Disregard the whole spartan program lore and think of its gameplay. Jumping off of anything can make many functions in-game irrelevant from vehicles and objects.

If you want fall damage, go play Halo CE.

To be fair there could be fall damage even in multiplayer. I don’t remember there being many if any areas of the arena maps we got to play that were insanely high off the ground. The tallest area I can think of is if you were all the way at the top on Recharge and fell to the bottom but that’s probably like a 20-30 foot drop which for a Spartan probably isn’t that bad. I will say you probably should not be able to jump off a mountain in the campaign or something and be able to live, that would be a bit ridiculous.

It’ll probably have a fall point that instantly kills you mid-air like H2+H3 did and I think H4, it’ll balance out jumping off cliffs that aren’t meant to be jumped off while taking the annoyance of a super soldier getting hurt off a minor fall for a super soldier (looking at you CE)

No thanks, if it’s going to be semi-open world then fall damage will be a pain in the butt, fall timers are fine though for the massive cliffs.

Agreed. Fall damage should be in campaign 100%. It was great in CE and makes for a better more realistic exploration feel in-game.

These are super soldiers with highly advanced suits.
Its not unrealistic if they don’t take fall damage.

you lose a lot of scale if you are effectively indestructible this way. To be honest the whole hookshot approach to climbing the landscape does itself the same seemingly but I guess we shall have to wait and see. Part of the sense of height and scale comes from slowly progressing from one point to another either climbing or falling and so the idea of being able to so easily manage large sections is a little concerning. Again it depends how they’ve moulded gameplay around this but yes certainly it could destroy a lot of the experience scale brings in a game that wll have large structure and mountain range

Maybe there is but it hasn’t been factored in yet because that was a flight

Yes. Exploration would be more challenging with fall damage, and you can’t really expect the Chief to jump of a cliff and survive, except maybe in cutscenes

While I don’t disagree I feel like you gotta draw the line somewhere. How high is too high? Do the same impact physics apply when getting hit by vehicles? Even in the books they took fall damage, I think some Spartans literally died when they landed on Reach after dropping in for the invasion. Maybe I’m just more prone to keep it lore accurate, I don’t know, fall damage like they had in CE just feels right to me.

Theres a fall timer in the games that can kill you. I think its like 4 or 5 seconds. Anyways it’s never good to have fall damage, especially in open world games. Just look at Borderlands 1 for example

Never played Borderlands but I do know that Halo has had fall damage and I believed it made for a better game. I’m all in favor of things like fall damage that prevent players from taking the easy way out or make them play more tactically, shortcuts make games feel cheaper if you ask me. Just my opinion.

I think if the scale of the fall is drastic enough you should take fall damage, but again I’d say you should be fine so long as the drop doesn’t exceed… iunno, 300ish feet?

I think I like most when there is none or barely any fall damage. But as long as it isn’t like in CE I’m not gonna go crazy over it.

Considering Infinite is inspiration off of CE, I already plan to be. So fall damage there is.

Think of the demo back in 2019. That whole elevator going up… if you were to drop straight from the top to the bottom, should you take some impact or feather down?

No I disagree 100%

Another vote for fall damage.

Campaign and multiplayer.

It doesn’t have to be a lot. Just a chunk of shield. Huge falls (Campaign type scenarios) can even pop them and bite into your health.

I would also be ok with a brief pause after falling. Superhero type landing where you brace yourself and then have to get back up.

I don’t think a Spartan should be able to fall from INFINITE heights and sustain no fall damage? I think falling from certain heights should make your shield pop at the least? and from great heights you should meet your demise? I mean the Spartan suit weighs a tonne right? and I think gravity should have some oomf? I mean if you think about the damage a GRAVITY hammer does to a spartan? imagine the velocity of a spartan falling from a 100-500m cliff against the pavement? It has to be done in a way where you can traverse most of the map without second guessing yourself, but some locations should still give you… pause?
