Hey guys I noticed that in the E3 demo level which 343 said was set to occur about a third of the way through the campaign if you watched it cortana mentions when they face off against knights + crawlers “its some kind of defence AI, definitely NOT covenant”
So I inferred from this that they had never seen them before. But in the preview that IGN showed in the 3rd level of the game labelled ‘forerunner’ they faced off against both cralwers and knights, so they had seen them before before the e3 demo. i’m just wondering why this is, anyone got an explanation?
The encounter we saw at E3 was staged on a seperate part of the campaign; essentially using similar resources from their actual introduction on a different level. I think they did that either to conserve resources, keep potential spoilers way from the public, or because had not yet got the level Forerunner prepared in time. Or at least this is what I’ve heard.

WE’re still trying to get to Infinity, but the dialogue about the Prometheans will likely be used for the actual first encounter.
The E3 encounter was obviously taken out of the “Forerunner” level and placed in the jungle environment, probably to show off the improved graphics and the Crawler’s ability to climb on surfaces, or maybe because “Forerunner” just wasn’t ready yet.
Firstly, the animation where the Promethean Knight ambushes Chief and Chief knocks him away is obviously from the “Forerunner” level, complete with Cortarna shouting “Watch out!” (reused in both). There is absolutely no reason for this to be reused in both levels and logically, it would be placed as an introduction to the Prometheans (which is to say, earlier on in the campaign).
Secondly, “Forerunner” takes place earlier in the game, and we meet the Prometheans then, so obviously we wouldn’t meet them “for the first time” twice.
Thirdly, the E3 presentation is of course tweaked from the finalized level to provide a better look at the game. I highly doubt that the final level will be very similar to the presentation.
