Once you start a mission (“Tower” for example) should you be able to stop halfway and resume it later? I have tried 3 times to complete this mission but have to stop and come back later due to life. Each time I load the game it puts me right back at the start of the mission again. I have seen saving progress and saving checkpoint multiple times during this mission, but when i save and quit it always puts me right back to the start. I am an IT manager and father of two kids - I may only have time to play 30 mins a day! At this rate i will never get anywhere!

I have had trouble with this tower mission today. Had to stop for dinner, come back and it’s right at the start again.

I played around with this more last night. It appears that it will save progress on “key parts” of the mission, like if you unlock a door or activate the gravity lift those parts are saved and you can skip past them when running through a 2nd time. But you if you stop you are always reset to the start of the mission and the base is repopulated with enemies and you have to fight through them to get back where you were before. It also appears some of the boss battles don’t happen again if you have already done them. This seems kind of odd to me, but I’m not used to open world games. Design choice or bug?
I’m having issues as well! It keeps saying “Save Failed” when it tried to save a checkpoint. I have 400gb of internal storage remaining. A brand new series X and I can’t save ANYTHING! Halo please fix guys. URGENT issue.
I’m having this same problem. It took me 4 separate tries to get to Chak’lok because I’d have to stop for the day and then start the entire mission back over. When I finally got to him, it saved my progress and subsequent restarts put me outside his chamber just before initiating the fight, but my load out wasn’t good for him and I had to exit to try again with different weapons.
By the time I finally got back to Chak’lok, I exited the game because last time it had saved me outside his room and I wanted to take a break and try him later.
When I reloaded, it started me back outside the tower base all over again.
I’m playing on Legendary. This is such a huge issue that honestly it makes me not want to play anymore. I can’t dedicate 4+ hours to completing each mission in a single sitting. And I don’t want to play on a lower difficulty because I’ve played every Halo game at that level. I want the challenge, but I need to be able to make progress.

Im having this same issue. Is there a fix? If not have far do I have to go in the tower so that it will save progress? This will let me plan my day 
I know that making it into the tower gives you a checkpoint you can load from, as I’ve done this myself. You get about one before encountering Chak. So, it seems you need to complete an objective for it to register, meaning a previous one may be activating all the switches you’re told to.
Are you choose Load or Continue from the main menu?
You have to see ‘Saving Progress’ in the bottom left corner and not ‘Saving Checkpoint’.
