Joseph Staten’s message at the end of Inside Infinite - August has me feeling that, at the very least, his priorities are on point. I think that being able to refrain from pulling valuable development time away from the game to make a trailer/gameplay demo is the correct choice; better to start putting that stuff out when the game is in a more polished state.
Optimism is in the trenches if we’re being honest. The game’s so busted they’re not even delivering one of the three pillars of the Halo experience at launch.
People are gonna claim the game is gonna get review bombed, but no, it’s not. It’s gonna get a fair shake and the reviews are gonna reflect that, but it’s gonna look like it got review bombed. That’s what happens when don’t deliver what is effectively half the game for some people. And that’s also assuming the rest of the game is perfect when they couldn’t even get the aiming right.

This game has had a rocky development cycle for sure. Could you imagine if the game came out a year ago? It would have been another cyberpunk.
But I really don’t think the game is as busted as you say. The game might come out busted if they continued to work on the features you consider the three pillars of the halo experience.
I would rather have a polished experience at launch missing some features (that have been promised down the line as live service updates 3-6 months from launch) than Halo 2077.

If you have such a negative outlook on 343 and the Halo Infinite game…then why are you here? Can we move on from this at this point and start looking forward to release. You are making assumptions about something you haven’t seen. I played the Tech Preview…I am assuming you did too, the Game was straight fire and brought back so many memories. I am looking forward to launch…

Because they must drench any fire of optimism the community has. This obviously was a feel good post, but that cannot exist for some people sadly. The scenarios Staten talks about with the Campaign makes me really excited.

Me too. Honestly, I didn’t think last years 8 minutes of gameplay was that bad. It gave me a baseline of what to expect…even with the new upgrades they made over the last year I am sure it will be absolutely fantastic. I am highly anticipating this campaign.
What worries me most about Infinite’s campaign is the story, and what worries me most about the story is continuing from Halo 5. Halo 5 can’t be taken back. Making Cortana evil was the worst thing that ever happened to Halo in my opinion. I expect that Infinite somehow will attempt to make it work, but that’s gonna be hard. Dang I hope they succeed.

Why would making her evil be a bad thing? I think it’s quite interesting. She was deemed rampant as far back as 4 and high slight issues starting to arise in Halo 3.

For me, 2 reasons.
- It completely undercuts the significance of her self sacrifice in 4.
- Because it’s an overused trope in sci-fi stories. There’s been soooooooo many books and movies to tackle the idea of “the AI we created to help humanity has decided it knows better and is taking control.” Sure, aliens trying to destroy humanity wasn’t exactly new either, but the idea that the Covenant were several species banded together through religious fanaticism was definitely something I’d never seen before.

True. Definitely used and abused at this point. I am interested to see how the Weapon pans out.

I agree that it’s a boring trope and a pretty big miss in Halo 5, but it would also be super lame if they just dropped that point completely. There has to be a better way to adapt it into the storyline.

She was rampant in halo 3/4 but at no point evil. She was broken, but she still showed compassion and care for Chief and for others. This whole evil thing was nothing more than a nonsensical plotwist that never should have occurred.

Well we can debate the semantics of it all day…but it happened. Time to role with it.

imagine be in a another person’s shoes in this case joseph staten and for the first time walk in to the studio and see the state of the game and telling yourself wtf is going on, and imagine how much weight you should carry due to mismanagement and bad decisions and on the other hand microsoft gave you 1 year deadline to fix the 5 years mess…
i’m pretty sure whatever the campaign is, it’s better than 5, and with yearly campaign dlc we don’t need to wait another 5 years to find out what could be the next chapter of chief story.
I honestly believe 343 will do us justice and give us a good campaign to end this saga. Story should be good and hopefully its on par with Halo 3’s campaign and feeling.

From what I understand, this initial campaign is just the beginning of this part of the Saga.
I would have and indeed I did a little while back but until they announce if the campaign side of things can be played offline then it’s hard to care too much. The live tag just puts you in mind of Destiny etc or the recent Outriders which means literally means the game doesn’t even function if not online.
Most people have online so that’s hardly an issue other than annoying interruptions and down time of course but much further down the line we wont know if Infinite campaign will function. Servers are shut down all the time and with it the games too.
First it was Halo5 Forge which they made to be played only online and now there’s a very real possibility campaign will be next. Who knows but they are very quiet on this. It’s fine if people are ok with this type of model but I suspect many will not be. It’s down to MS of course how they want to do this but if you’re the sort of person that cares about this aspect to Halo then it’s time to speak up folks
I was sincerly looking forward to what looks to be a fantastic campaign potentially but with the ‘live game’ hanging over it, I’ve dialled it back down again until 343 can shine some clarity on what that actually means

Because I want to talk about the game and honestly there’s not many other places on the internet that have active discussions about it. If no one is allowed to have opinions then what is the point of posting. I wanna see how the game turns out. I wanna discuss how the game turns out in the meantime. I don’t think I should have to lie about my opinions on it to make others feel happy. I follow the rules and the rules don’t say anything about forbidding criticisms of what we’ve seen so far.* I think that’s reasonable.
*Which btw, wasn’t the case on the Epic forums for Gears back in the day. That was some iron fisted, North Korean propaganda on those boards. Any slight criticism would be evaporated immediately. You’d hit refresh and half the posts would be gone. Credit to MS and the mods most of the time for letting these boards speak freely.

Ahh yes, the “Rise of Skywalker” approach. Roll with it and salvage whatever you can around the last thing, lol.
The problem is that they went to the Cortana rampancy/sacrifice well too many times. Cortana seemingly sacrificed herself in 2. she was rescued and they played with rampancy in Halo 3. Then they went back to her sacrificing herself again in Halo 4. Now they did rampancy again in Halo 5 and never actually told a story with it. It’s just bad storytelling, especially how badly it was told in 5. And like Rise of Skywalker, they are gonna have to shed a lot of the nonsense from the prior story, bring in a new enemy, and then try to wrap up an old, badly told story. Like rise of Skywalker there is a clear ceiling on how good this story could ever be because the baggage it carries is way to much to overcome. The fact that there has been so much focus on a new palette swapped faction of brute-led covenant instead of Cortana so far in what we know of Infinite’s campaign means it’s hard to think they are going to pull off the Cortana storyline in a satisfying manner. Who knows, maybe she might use her powers to call in 10,000 ̶s̶t̶a̶r̶ ̶d̶e̶s̶t̶r̶o̶y̶e̶r̶s̶ Covenant warships.
All while primarily taking place on a single remote planet of some sort. visible confusion

Please don’t say that. Can’t we just tell a complete story first before we begin telling multipart epics? Every story that begins as a saga ends with disappointment. Focus on just telling a good story first. A New Hope worked because it was focused on telling a good, self-contained story. Halo CE worked because it focused on telling a good, self-contained campaign.
He even said there were secondary missions besides the main campaign. THIS is what I’m excited about. Lots of campaign playtime and different choices. Semi Open world just like odst

This game has hope and pain written all over it.
