Campaign mission select

Will it be based on section of the map and then each slice will be called a mission or will it be main story checkpoints or both combined

I assume it will not include the open world parts.

Or it’s going to be like ODST and people will try to replay a mission and accidentally restart their progress.

343i know that we want this and we are getting the mission select so we can replay missions

I’m going to guess they’ll add it in the most hairbrained and disaponting way possible.

Oh, 343 they know we want to be able to replay individual missions, so they are going to make it so, why, because they are listening. The fact there is no mission replay right now for whatever bull-Crap reason 343 gave, is absolutely mind-numbing.

Other than we know it’s coming, there isn’t any news on how it will be implemented, maybe it’s as simple as still roam around the open world but the icons for the area missions will have a replay mission option maybe

How could you not “include open world parts” Some missions literally are part of the open world like the Tower, Excavation site. I still don’t understand how they will even implement replayable missions.

The level starts within a certain proximity to the tower. You can’t leave that area,. You don’t get to travel to/from it. The next level loads and you’re within a certain proximity of the excavation site. Those levels aren’t part of the open world so much as they’re just outside.

Other than upgrading equipment and weapons, the open world can be skipped - especially in terms of story. They could just say on Level X equipment is Tier Y.

Or it’s like ODST and each rally point of the open world level is a different Point A to Point B task - basically the travel between missions.

And what about what you spawn with?

How can they implement that with with your own professional skill tree? Same with vehicles, what if someone wants to play the match with a vehicle? Or the marines I have with me and what they use?

The whole marketing for the campaign 343i had in mind was “You can approach this mission from any way and any direction”. The community wanting a mission select completely neglects how will the skill tree, weapon and vehicle spawning be related. I personally don’t mind the campaign with mission select, but I don’t see how it will work.

There wouldn’t be a skill tree for co-op. They would load you with a certain branch, if you will.

Not sure about the vehicles - if they go the ODST route - you’d just use them while traversing.

Putting boundaries around the levels is probably the easiest way to do level select.

Or it just loads the world at the point as if the previous levels were done.

I can’t see it keeping track of FOBs and HVTs after switching levels. It would have to reset.

I don’t see how that would work. Keys parts of the campaign like The Tower, Outpost Tremonius, Sequence, the first part of excavation. There’s actually quite a chunk of the campaign you would cut out including several cutscenes and boss fights.

What key part of the tower is open world that wouldn’t be solved by what I suggested? They just turn it into an outdoor level with invisible walls, and you start within them. You just don’t get to travel to the tower.

You don’t have to complete the outposts to finish the game so arguably they don’t need to be included to drive the story. They could also turn them into their own mini levels in the same way I descrive for the tower.

I don’t want it to skip the open world stuff - I’m just $20 sure it will.

I am not suggesting that you’ll never be on the world map - just that you won’t be able to go wherever you want.

There are other games that have both campaign and open world, and you can go back and replay the individual campaign missions. This game was designed with major flaws from the ground up and all I can hope is that whoever is working on this game and making these decisions doesn’t leave gaming and start designing liveable cities, because traveling from one street to the next street if you have already come from that location is going to be a nightmare. Possibly they thought the campaign would not be worth replaying, and you know ???

Maybe I’m thinking too much about how it wpuld work with co-op.

Regardless - if I unlock a bunch of open world stuff and the decide I want to play the road so I select that level, I would assume I’d lose my progress.

Unless - and this is the best option now that I think about it (sorry if someone said it already) but if you return to the tower, for example, at any point there’s a prompt or a terminal that will let you play that level again. When it loads, that’s when you get the invisible walls preventing you from leaving the space.

I feel like they are going for the have your cake and eat it too approach. I think the old campaign stuff is just stuck on an island of “why?!” and they wont really have a meaningful way to do mission select on the majority of it outside the first 3 missions. I suspect if we do see current campaign content with a level select it will be exclusive to levels you could not replay in open world setting. Seems a lot more likely they will back out of open world as the new messiah and add the dlc stuff in a more level select structured format. That way they can claim see we were right it is the best ever, while also giving people the ability to play with their friends on the title like its 2008.

My guess is you’ll be able to replay missions by selecting them on the map once you’ve loaded into a game you already have going.

Like, say you load a game where you’ve completed everything. Open your map, go to the map icon for “The Road” main mission you’ve already beat, press a button to start a “replay” session that loads you into the start of the mission.

Maybe it will be the map slice format then from that slice you select a point on the map to start from

Each mission, open world or not, have a start emplacement, so the simple way is to start at the start emplacement, with all abilities lock, all secondary mission unfinished and marines presence at minimum

Every Halo title has had a replay mission component, and the reason given for its absence in Halo Infinite is that the Open World has made it more complicated, they should have just consulted with any other game developer. And another thing, Halo Infinite’s Open World is really no more open than Combat Evolved.

Being suspicious like this company has made me, I would bet that during the development of this game all the contract companies involved completely forgot to include replay missions and so then the scrambling and the excuses started.

The excuse makes no sense to a reasonable person that has played other games with a massive Open World and campaign components and everything is replayable, but somehow Halo Infinites Open World is different. Laugh Laugh Laugh
