Firefight is lots of fun (and btw I just love the Giant Grunt howling from his loudspeakers - made me crack up the first time I played it; lots of brownie points to 343 for this small and unexpected burst of creativity).
The last couple of months I was losing interest in Halo, but experiencing Firefight brought me be back to this beloved game.
Now if only 343 could set up random matchmaking for Campaign. This would effectively be a prolonged Firefight on a team of 4. I’m sure lots of people who are loving Firefight would jump into the Campaign again and perhaps replay (or play for the first time) individual levels. The Campaign is built for co-op, but the sad reality is that most people don’t have friends available to play it (on the right day, at the right time), so most of us are stuck with those three dumb and frustrating AIs, which significantly weakens the overall Campaign experience. If we could just jump in a lobby and get matched up with other random players, I’ll bet you anything that Campaign would have a revival.
And you know - on a small team of four playing an entire level, players would actually (for a change) start using headsets and talking to each other to strategize etc. Wouldn’t that be fun? New friends would be made.
How difficult can this be, 343? This would be a very low-effort / high return upgrade to the game. But you need to do it NOW. You have to ride this wave of higher player numbers and renewed enthusiasm that you managed to rekindle with Firefight. You know very well it’s going to be short-lived.
I like the idea of it.
They would need to add a mission vote/veto system though - if you got the same mission three times in a row it would get boring.
Also, trolls sort of spoilt the Reach campaign matchmaking for me so I didn’t play it too much, e.g. standing in front of your tank cannon if they wanted to use it.
No thanks.
Halo: Reach’s didn’t work out very well, and that was a great campaign.
I’d hate to see a supported playlist with a “mediocre” campaign get hit worse than a predecessor.

You now only have the option of playing the Campaign in the company of bots (unless you happen to have friends willing to play with you).
Wouldn’t you agree that getting matched up with other humans would be an improvement?
I’m pretty sure that overall player population would benefit significantly. That’s the ultimate purpose for 343 and for all of us. If matchmaking in Campaign were to increase player numbers, all other multiplayer lists would benefit. Just look at Arena: since June 29, I can get a match on any playlist pretty much instantly. During the last two months I could wait for ages in lobbies.
Even if you wouldn’t play Campaign, you would get the benefit of a higher player population in the playlists you like.
yes’s do this please I like campaign especially now with score attack
I’ve always called for this, and never understood the lack of matchmaking since Halo 3. I was new to the 360 and had few friends on XBL, I picked up the game at midnight and my heart sank when I couldn’t find someone to play with. I was dumbfounded as to why I couldn’t join in a game-in-progress or matchmake into a campaign after Gears of War did it so effortlessly.
I’ve only beat the Halo 5 campaign on easy when it was first released so I could blast through it without being spoiled. But because of the terrible story I haven’t gone back to it, but if they implemented matchmaking I’d definitely go back to complete it on Legendary.
The problem is that the campaign doesn’t require reqs ,which also means no extra income for 343. I really can’t see them bothering.
