Campaign Match Making
In the Gears of War series, they have a specific menu setup for those that want to jump straight into a campaign mission.
Waiting for friends who aren’t online and are now on a completely different game, this would be a way to find those games faster and much easier.
It’s not as easy as you probably think. They would have to do several things before that can even be possible:
- They would need to rework the netcode of Campaign so that it may run on dedicated servers. - They would need to make it so that campaign sessions do not end if a player quits. - They would need to do quite a bit of UI work.Believe me, I’d love it if we had Campaign Matchmaking. I just don’t know how realistic something like that would be.

> I believe the netcode for campaign is the same used for firefight, and they’re going to have firefight co-op matchmaking on dedicated servers when Reach launches on MCC. Also if I recall correctly, campaign sessions didn’t end in the original Reach campaign matchmaking. Those weren’t on dedicated servers, but like i said, the netcode between campaign and multiplayer is very similar, so it may not end up being that difficult if they already have these things working for firefight. I’m sure there are other complications I’m not thinking of that would make it difficult, but I don’t see the netcode being too much extra work.

Yeah, Halo: Reach and Halo 4 allow you to continue a Campaign session if a player quits. Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 3: ODST do not, though. I was not sure which Halo game(s) you were referring to as you never really specified. The netcode used for Campaign was the same netcode used for Firefight, but they changed the netcode for Firefight specifically. That doesn’t mean they can just copy/paste what they did for Firefight to Campaign; it’s far more complicated than that.
I don’t believe it would be impossible to change the Campaign netcode, but they have other things they need to prioritize. Firefight probably got that treatment because everything on MCC runs on dedicated servers, and Firefight was an important part of Halo: Reach matchmaking.

> You’re certainly right about the other games needing a lot of work before co-op matchmaking would be possible, and none of what I’m saying are things I’m expecting anytime soon. There are plenty of other things that need to be addressed first. And like I said, a co-op browser-esque system would probably be the best route to go, and the regular custom games browser isn’t here yet, so that would be a ways off.

> My main point regarding the netcode wasn’t that they could simply copy and paste the firefight changes into campaign, but that at least some of the work done for the Firefight netcode would likely translate to the campaign in some form. It wouldn’t be easy to implement, but it wouldn’t be like starting from scratch either.

> When I said it wouldn’t be too much extra work, perhaps that was an exaggeration, so you’re right in that regard. Also I didn’t really address your point about the UI work that would need to be done, which is also a good point.
Having co-op Campaign run in the same way that Firefight will would be a dream. I’m totally with you on that, but I always try to keep my expectations somewhat realistic so that I don’t get disappointed lol. In an ideal scenario, Custom Games and co-op Campaign would run on dedicated servers.
thr mcc is probably the halo gamewhere it makes the most semse to have campaign matchmaking alone for the mass of missions / chalanges and arichivments

A Match Composer for Campaign would be awesome.
