Campaign is just fun

Campaign is just outright fun. There’s the outside world which is magnificent. I’ve had a great time playing this game. I stay away from competitive because I’m 66 and can’t even begin to compete. It has some screw ups but overall its really fun to play. The story is good and I’m well pleased after playing Halo for 21 years… Good Job 343.

It is an excellent campaign. It completely captures the “30 seconds of fun” philosophy that Bungie once espoused. Just staking out these big, epic Halo battles, bringing the Marines in for total chaos, it’s great. I can’t wait to see what they do with expansion content.

I do enjoy exploration in the game, but I do wish there was a little more… Stuff going on in the world… Say like random encounters and battles between Banished and Marines, some small, and some large scale with vehicles involved that you can enter act in and what not…

Story-wise I liked the campaign.

Gameplay-wise…eeeeeh. The core gameplay is certainly fun, no arguments there, but the open world and the activities do get stale after a while. Same usual hilly/mountainous grasslands with the same FOBs with very similar Banished outposts with the same Forerunner hallways. There’s no real variety with the activities and after you’ve had your couple Razorback joyrides with power weapon-equipped Marines in the back or your first couple flights with a Wasp, there’s really nothing else to do to spice things up - especially after completing the dozen or so HVTs and other samey missions.

What I missed most out of the campaign was more scripted events, particularly bigger battles between UNSC/Banished. The Marine rescues were the closest thing I got, plus whatever Marines I party-vanned with and rescued at others bases. Don’t even get random UNSC/Banished patrols encountering and fighting against each other in the open world.

Also it just feels like whatever you do in the open world has no sort of bearing or connection to the main story missions. You can go around and do all the side activities, eliminate all the HVTs, rescue all the Marines, capture all the FOBs and outposts, essentially kick the Banished out form everywhere, and it will have the same effect as if you just did a run that skipped all that stuff and just did the story missions.

Buuuuuut I did enjoy this campaign more than I did 5’s, that’s for sure :yum:

I’m kind of curious as to how Coop is going to work in this game now that I think about it. Are we going to be stuck together, teleporting if back to the host if we stray too far as we roam around like we’re a posy or something?

That was one of the troubles they listed in the development as to why co-op wasn’t going to be at the start: how co-op was going to be handled in the open world. Having people muck around in different side activities while someone does a main story mission (and with a boss battle like Bassus) certainly seems problematic, but figuring out a range of tether from the host also has its complications and how it may effect encounters (like someone getting in the middle of a firefight - in a vehicle like a Scorpion Tank, no less - and then pulled to the host in mid-fight).

A workaround I see that ties to getting a main story selection is that maybe people can roam around the open world all they want but when they want to proceed to the main story they need to select/queue up for it.

and there are also a lot of diffrend way’s to defeat the bosses you can try and do.
its not always the same way like in other halo’s that you need to have this weapon to defeat that type boss always.
like in halo 3 that you most use the spartan laser to defeat the last boss battle more.
or in halo 5 that the same weapon you need to defeat that type boss on a legendary difficulty.

there are a lot off diffrend way’s you can now try and do.
i am also now trying to think out how to defeat Chak 'Lok and Bassus on a compleet diffrend way what not has been try out yet.

I just wish I had a reason to keep playing the campaign after 100% completion. All I have left is LASO but I can’t see myself doing it. Some challenges or something would be nice.

I’ve kind of pictured the co-op not involving the open world at all and it being more like a traditional Halo where you go from one mission to the next in a list. That or the players need to stay within a certain distance of each other. You definitely won’t be able to explore the open world while the other player is in a ‘mission’ area.
