So, there’s a lot of questions and little info on pre-downloading.
Tl:dr at end.
Let me add to that what I’ve found.
First time I tried to pre-install the campaign through the Game pass app on the phone, my xbox did show a 600 MB download pass by quickly. Which was odd as it says the campaign is 28 GB.
Then I thought I’d be smart by testing pre-downloading to my PC and then maybe transfer it to my Xbox ( nope that doesn’t work ).
I left it to work overnight and when I checked today, it said that the entire installation takes up 60 GB of space on the harddrive. Okay, so 28 GB is the installation, while installed it takes a lot more.
Now, the Infinite installation on the Xbox says 17.5 GB, thinking the Game Pass app, or Pre-install already thought the Campaign is installed due to the Beta allreadt being installed, I deleted the installation and tried again.
No reaction on the App, but, I discovered that 17.5 GB hadn’t been freed up, but 60 GB. Which is the size of the installation on the PC.
tl:dr
I uninstalled the 17.5 GB Beta on my Xbox and it freed up 60 GB, which is the same size the campaign pre-install is on my PC.
“As can be seen in the guide, the download size for Halo Infinite is just shy of 50GB when downloading the game from scratch, while it weighs in at around 30GB for those who already have the multiplayer beta installed. The difference here comes from Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, which weighs in at 26.53GB for those without the beta and a mere 3.97GB for those with it.”
On my Xone, the Beta said 17.5 GB.
As I removed it, and only it, I got 60 GB of space.
Of course, those 42.5 GB could be reserved, but that’d be space wasting, and should be written somewhere.
So, in the Beta, what was the 42.5 GB extra?
Well it just took like 30 days and 753 threads in this forum to figure this out.
Thanks!
An official statement, maybe two days in advance, would’ve been coo’ but what do i know…
So the 30gb is gonna go pretty fast but RIP anyone without fast internet. Some notes for next time, I’m sure there must be a better way to roll out the launch to allow those with slow internet to pre-load.
With everyone downloading at once the speeds will probably be even slower. Some gamers won’t be playing until tomorrow, even with the disc!
But for some reason it could pre-download the Campaign on PC, which was 60 GB.
Deleting the Beta ( 17.5 GB as said by Xone ), and only the Beta, freed up 60 GB, went from 135 to 195.
Now I’ve installed the Beta again and went to 173 GB.
Oh wait, nvm. Canceling an 800 MB update for Diablo 3 apparently uninstalled the game at the same time as the Beta…
