Some things I would like in the Halo 4 Campaign…
1. Ability to give weapons to scripted allies, such as Noble Team or the Arbiter for example.
You should be able to walk up to Emile and give him something other than the Shotgun. In Halo 3 you could “kill” the Arbiter and when he got back up he would grab whatever weapon you left around him but it’s not the same as just walking up to them and saying “Take this”. So we should have this ability in Halo 4.
2. Take away the AI’s ability to drive.
Giving them the ability to drive sounded like a good idea except for the fact they’re all idiots. On the Silent Cartographer I always enjoyed grabbing the two Warthogs, load them up with Marines and they station them around the entrance to the Cartographer. Then I would go open the door and when the Covenant spawned they would open fire on each other and I could see the carnage when I got there.
You can’t do that in any other Halo because if you get out and walk away, some idiot will jump in and drive himself off the cliff, or flip himself upside down. I say they go back to the way they were in Halo: CE where they stay put.
3. Allies should actually be smart and learn to prioritize.
ODSTs shouldn’t fall to their deaths when they have Jetpacks. Marines shouldn’t fire the rocket at the group of enemies you’re standing in front of. Allies should be able to prioritize targets in a fight. For example, if you’re driving a Gauss Warthog and you’re fighting a Wraith, the gunner should be smart enough to focus his attention on the actual Wraith and not some random Grunt running away in terror. Prioritize your targets!
On SWORD Base I like to give each of the three Marines by the Gate a Rocket Launcher in hopes they actually do some damage when the Revenants arrive but they don’t. They put all of their intention into the Phantoms while the Revenants blow them away. They don’t even target the Phantom’s gun, just the body which doesn’t do enough.
> For example, if you’re friend is driving a Gauss Warthog and he’s fighting a Wraith, the gunner should be smart enough to focus his attention on the actual Wraith and not freaking shoot you just because you are standing in front of a grunt running away in terror.
fix’d -_-
They’ve needed to improve the NPC AI since the original game, but never have. I think the developers are afraid that by improving the AI, the game becomes easier for the player, or perhaps takes them out of the idea that they’re a super-soldier.

That’s probably why but that’s no excuse for them to be so incompetent. You don’t want them to do all the work for you, but you don’t want them running you over or blowing you up with the Rocket either. The AI in Halo 3 wasn’t the greatest AI in the world, but it was way more intelligent than the AI in Reach. AI in Reach are too stupid to shoot at enemies that are “too far away” even though those enemies are smart enough to shoot from that distance. They sit there and take the damage without even attempting to shoot back and it’s sad.
I really hope the AI in Halo 4 is better than Reach.
The AI needs to be improved, I remember that Bungie were making a big fuss about how much smarter both the enemy and the friendly AI are in Reach compared to other Halo games and they did improve the enemy AI in Reach but the friendly AI is so much dumber. They need to be made smarter. The AI in CE was good for its time but like everything else in a video game, the AI is supposed to be improved with every game but half the time I think that the AI has actually gotten worse.
Friendly AI in Reach kill me far more often than the past Halo AI did.
It’s like Bungie made the enemy AI smarter (and just plain cheaper), and the friendly AI a lot dumber. Seriously, Kat should never drive a Warthog. Ever. And I’m sick of ODSTs dropping to their deaths, and Marines/Army Troopers who throw grenades at my feet while I’m fighting an enemy.
For all of Bungie’s hype, they only went half-way. The enemy AI is much better, but you’re allies are awful. I know they don’t want AI to be too smart so they can play the game for you, but that’s no excuse for having terrible AI that are a threat to themselves and you
I noticed today that when you had AI passengers in the Troop Transport Warthog, they don’t shoot at anyone. This is really weird because in Halo 3 if you picked up people in a Transport it became a Death Machine. Having 5 Marines on board with Rockets was amazing but you can’t do that in Reach for some reason. Can something like that be patched?
Expanding on the weapon swap, I think dropping your weapon (or simply hurling it at the nearest baddie) and going unarmed would be pretty nice. H3 had the potential with the brief bits like the start of Crows nest.
Would be a nice excuse for an achievement too.
give allied AIs a better AI. even if it means giving marines the elite major AI, the current marine ai sucks.
give scripted friendly AI’s better combat scripting. it took carter ten minutes to get one elite ultra’s shields down, and he didn’t even kill it! (i did after painfully watching the stalemate.)
