The multiplayer has already made it feel like one of my favourite games. I know it needs a bit more love in the playlist department, but the foundations are extremely solid and I love the maps and gameplay.
With regard to the campaign, the open world mixed in with traditional missions works very well. Being able to upgrade the armour is great, by the end of the campaign I was really feeling like Spartan-117.
As much as I enjoyed Halo 4 campaign, it was really nice to go back to traditional enemies which are the core of the Halo universe. The Banished are the most interesting faction in the Halo lore to me so I’ve really enjoyed the focus being on them. Their characters in the books are very enjoyable. The boss fights felt very classic Halo-esque and were much better than the H5 bossfights however I still think they could learn a thing or two from other games in scaling difficulty. Reternal comes to mind. Make the bosses become more difficult through their attack patterns and movement, not just making them bullet sponges. I think with the thrust ability, a bullet time boss would work well in Halo.
I’ve found many Easter eggs through natural exploration which is very fun to come across. The landscape is very pretty and doesn’t feel too large and empty like a lot of open world games end up doing. Due to the size I found I was coming across a lot of stuff organically which admittedly doesn’t happen much on the larger map style games.
Overall I’m loving this game and have already sunk many hours into it. This game is brilliant and I’m hungry for more.
