So I’ve been an avid Halo fan, and yes I sat through mindless hours of reach as well, for years. And although every campaign story and game play were amazing, the thing I enjoyed best were finding glitches in all of the levels. To me it gave a good reason to waste a couple hours running about trying to find ways out of the map or to float around. Reach took this fun away from me by having minor glitches that didn’t solve anything, besides driving the forklift to a wall and jumping out on the other side. Any news on how through 343 is gonna be with their boundaries?
I believe they are doing the usual thing developers do, trying to set the boundaries to naturally go with the design of the level and ending up with a few unpatched spots. However, I certainly hope, for the best of Halo 4, that they understand that as long as there is only a proper path guiding the player, and objects blocking just walking out of the level, there is no need to add invisible boundaries. I hope they understand, that if a player finds a path where they can get out of the map with a few crouch jumps and grenade jumps, there is no reason blocking that path as it cannot impact the gameplay experience in any other way than positively by making it more deepere.
I love getting out of the levels in campaign, and Reach and Halo 3 certainly were disappointements. Reach especially, with the horrible kill boundaries everywhere. In a best case scenario I want a similar experience as in Halo 2. Jumping onto the rooftops on Outskirts and killing the enemies from above is certainly a good experience, so is taking a few steps to the side on Delta Halo, jumping up and just exploring the outer areas even though there isn’t much to explore there. I could say same about pretty much any level of Halo 2, whether it’s exploring the space on Cairo Station or finding the Scarab gun on Metropolis or simply skipping the enemies on Legendary on Gravemind. The Halo 2 level of exploration is what I would like to see in Halo 4.
glitches are inevitable. I’m sure this game will be filled with them (and Easter eggs!)
As tsassi said i would prefer a Halo 2 type approach or at most Halo 3 for barriers. Barriers were almost non existant in 2 and in 3 once you broke them you were free, plus the fun new ways to get out in 3 like grav lifting onto a phantom turret or the end of seirra 117 by the skull. Jumping with the dude on your head in the corner and such, and grenade jumping. Sadly like Bungie, I dont see 343i bringing back nade jumping like Reach because “it’s an exploit” that whiners complain about. If they manage to put nade jumping in I want the Sputnik skull back cool easter eggs like the giant soccer ball and scarab gun.
So i was playing through the Halo Reach campaign on legendary on PC, and I beat the game. In the menu it said I had only beaten 11/12 missions, and it said Long Night of Solace wasn’t completed. I played through it again, but it still says i haven’t beaten it. I own the game on steam if that’s any help.
Thank you!
