So Atriox looks a lot younger in the Legendary ending than he does in the beginning of the game or even Halo Wars 2. There is also the line where the voice says the “time cannot be something they master.”
Do you guys think that there is some time manipulation type shenanigans happening or about to happen in the future?
Nah man, his skin is smoother on half because it was burned off. He also doesn’t have his warpaint on which isn’t solid so it makes him look aged.
When Cortana blew up it was assumed she took him with her. Ending shows he survived the explosion but was disfigured from it.
It already happened. At the beginning of the cutscene you can see the scene takes placed almost 100k years BCE, the first time “The Endless” have been imprisoned because they couldn’t be destroyed by the rings.
I do not believe that Atriox is 100k years old but rather think that he was time-warped back (which I believe is the “secret” of Zeta Halo they keep talking about) because the chief also gets time-warped into the future even if it is only 3 days.
Atriox was definitely displaced in time, which led the rest of the Banished to believe him dead.
He is definitely NOT in the future, because the Endless Cylixes were still active in the cutscene.
What I believe is that Atriox was displaced into the past by accident, the missing Warpaint is just to throw us off. Atriox after being displaced into the past, found a way to free the Endless from the Cylixes, more specifically, he freed the Harbinger. The post credits cutscene is a scene which has already came to be, when Atriox first frees Harbinger.
He then must have struck some deal with the Harbinger who persists into the present day and contacted Escharum about her goals, stating her goals aligned with those of the Banished.
The deal was probably that in exchange for freeing the Harbinger and the Endless, they would attempt to use Zeta to rewind time on Dosiac, to before the destruction by the Guardians.
That date is almost certainly just for the voice over. The same cutscene plays without the voice over, with no date on difficulties below legendary. They likely did it like this because there was confusion around the Halo 4 ending where the didacts voiceover was from thousands of years ago, but people thought it was the present, so 343 probably added the date to avoid that happening again.
On top of that, the conversation is clearly taking place before the endless are imprisoned, Despondent Pyre and the Grand Edict are plotting that action. And Atriox is freeing them in the cutscene, meaning the voice over and the visuals can’t be taking part at the same time. In that case, there’s very little to suggest Atriox is back in time. There’s always a chance, but it seems very slim to me.
I don’t understand why people talk about time travel to the past ? The master chief appear three day in the futur, but time travel to the past is a totally different thing.
Maybe Atriox was considered as dead because he make a jump to the futur for 6 month (accidental or not)
Maybe the endless survive to the Halo effect by jumping to the futur
I don’t believe that is true because voice overs never get a text overlay. Those are always used for establishing the setting that is on screen. Although if the layover was used to distinguish the narration it would be very unorthodox.
As far as the war paint goes I think you might be right. I thought he looked younger because the white from his beard was gone. That white always looked like it was natural.
That’s probably because of the burns. I think he lost the beard if I recall?
I do think there might be some time travel just because they kept going on about them being the masters of time and the three day time skip. I just don’t see why you would need to put the time stamp down for what’s clearly Forerunners talking in the past.
Possibly the Time Travel is limited to the jumping around the Harbinger did. Very limited and I don’t think it includes travel across space so they can’t do anything outside of the ring.
Also, in the multiplayer tutorial they mention Infinity and the Ring disappeared. I had assumed Slipspace, but its quite possible Zeta Halo itself was propelled to a different part of the timeline through Slipspace.
