Campaign Demo was nice...but it didnt have the WOW

Now I’m not going to rant on how much crap the Campaign Demo was because it actually wasn’t. However it was displeasing to say the least. The Halo 4 Demo honestly had a better job done on it. Now I know what fanboys all over are gonna say that it looked like a ripoff of Republic Commando and Star Wars fans are probably ripping on 343 as we speak. However the Campaign was decent…not BADASS decent. But it was the ok but I want to see more decent. Warzone honestly had a better presentation. That was basically reborn Firefight and a drivable Pelican is very nice in this mode. Though I’m also hoping for that in BTB. And if your gonna look at me and say weren’t you the one who said you were trading your Xbone and MCC in for a PS4? Yes that definitely was me, however Phil Spencer just throwing out the backwards capablility for the Xbone completely sold me because its something the Xbone desperately needs. I mean come on, Halo 3 and Reach on Xbone + LIVE thanks to that feature? Yeah I don’t gott say anything else.

However 343, the Campaign alone however different it may have felt wasn’t enough for me. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it, however shifting into Johns perspective would’ve been nice. It’s sadly however not enough for a pre-order from me yet because with how disappointed I was with the MCC in the end. I don’t want to pay $60 for a Halo 2 Aniversary Campaign and the couple of matches I played along with Forge. I still haven’t seen BTB footage or Forge footage and I want to see the whole picture before I even consider a pre-order.

You did a good job 343 on the Campaign, however it isn’t enough for me at the moment.

343i: “Our campaign is the most ambitious yet with emphasis on player choice in the battlefield ensuring that encounters feel different everytime.”

shows a small heavily scripted sequence

For real…what is this??

Truth be told, the activation of the Guardian was a nice wow moment for me. That thing looked huge and I really want to know what is going on there. Also, Grunt saying, “I regret everything” was simple the best.

And yes it was heavily scripted. I had more hype for Halo 4 from it’s Campaign Demo honestly.

Which is a very small sequence of a larger mission

Seriously, I get it. I thought to myself “Oh cool!” while watching it but I also thought that it looked too scripted. However, considering it’s been confirmed that each campaign mission has multiple routes through them and they’re pretty big, I’d say that they chose this more to show off squad features, new enemies, and to tease some of the story.

The grunt was awesome, also, happy to hear the Covies actually speaking English with translations now instead of something not alien sounding and just hilarious sounding languages. But oh man, I hope we all get to fight that Guardian.

I would like to remind everyone that criticizing the presentation is not the same thing as criticizing the game as a whole. While there were a lot of interesting parts of the Demo, the actual gameplay was not presented well. Its not a matter of that it was scripted or linear, it just did not do a great job of really introducing a lot of new aspects of the game.

Compare it to the Halo 4 E3 2012 demo. The binary rifle disintegrating the Elite, the verticality and wall scaling crawlers, the Introduction of the Knight, the watcher and its hardlight shield, grenade catching, crawler summoning abilities, the way Forerunner weapons formed and their mechanics. Now watch the Halo 5 demo where we get introduced to the Promethean Soldiers only to be immediately dispatched by the shotgun before we really got to see their capabilities. Same with the Promethean air. They were window dressing rather than the main showcase. The only exceptions being the plasma caster and the Promethan we see at the very end which did not really show of gameplay.

I imagine when you play it yourself things will be a lot more interesting, but as a presentation to wow the audience with gameplay I can’t say it did very well.

I don’t need the wow now, I need it when I finally play the game. This E3 got me more excited, but didn’t spoil anything. I’m fine.

Good, 343 is smart not showing off the “wow” parts of the story.
