I’m unbelievably hyped for Halo 5, and I have my copy on preorder. That being said, I am yet to see footage of the campaign that even remotely compares in to these 1080p screenshots. The gameplay appears to be in something closing to 720p, and has a significant amount of anti-aliasing going on.
In addition to this, my one complaint of the graphics in Halo 4 were the crappy effects for explosions. Those appear to be making a comeback in Halo 5, as the battle in the background and the building crumbling look like something from a game made 5 years ago.
I know this is nitpicking, but I honestly hope those weren’t the final visuals that Microsoft is banking on “to demonstrate the power of the Xbox One.” Battlefront looks immensely more impressive in the visuals department.
I saw that too… they should take a page from battlefronts explosions.
Yeah I noticed that the background look really awful. Super blurry.
Use the xbox wire b-roll footage for the sharpest video, looks awesome on my tv.

That looks significant better, though the explosion effects are still hideous and the game appears to be running at something under 1080. Time will tell. There’s still time to polish before launch.

It’s actually supposed to be running at 900p.

This page has War Zone footage too.

You can still see the blurriness in the background.
Unfortunately I must agree. While the screenshots look great, the gameplay has some noticeably poor effects on some things, predominantly so explosions. They look just like the ones from Halo 4; low quality and unfitting. Anyone remember the cruiser being blown up? A couple explosions with the same look being nowhere near large enough for a nuclear payload resulting in a ship splitting into three pieces.
However, if the feeble explosions must stay, then the aliasing has to go. Even after downloading the b-roll footage, the aliasing was even worse than what I saw during the stream and YouTube videos. That is expected though, as the lower bit rate of the latter will reduce the visibility of aliased edges.
At this point, seeing the absolutely horrendous decision that Microsoft made when choosing the Xbone’s gpu, I would not mind having FXAA applied to the game (Because of its negligible effect on performance). I understand some people dislike the blur introduced by FXAA, but I do not notice any to warrant the need for a complete lack of anti aliasing. On another note SMAA would not be bad either.
Even if the Xbox had the power for MSAA, it would be to no avail, seeing how it has no effect on alpha textures such as those used in landscapes and foilage.

According to the devs in The Sprint, it’s supposed to be “fog”. Unfortunately, it just looks like -Yoink-.

This. The explosions of the vehicles in multiplayer and the chunks of debris falling in the demo as if everything were made with legos is just unacceptable. They should really quit talking about “the power of the Xbox One” and “Halo 5 looks better than The Order” because from what I’ve seen, it’s complete nonsense.
I mean…Could it just be that they toned the demo down? Leaving the full thing for reveal later?

No one from 343 ever said Halo 5 looks better than The Order.

Not to mention that Frankie went on record to say that the graphics would “shock” people about two years ago. I guess he was referring to the horrible explosion effects.
I’m on mobile and this may not apply to everyone (those of you on PC) but gamespot seems to have the best video player to watch on mobile, its actually 60fps and the resolution is crystal clear, I tried watching all the Halo 5 footage on IGN and YouTube and what but none of them did the game any justice with the horrible resolution except for gamespot, and after seeing it in 60fps I am confident that the graphics will be glorious.
