So I haven’t played much Halo for the past few months, however, I finished the campaign multiple times in November and December. I got on today and was interested in doing one of the weekly campaign challenges, but when I went to a campaign lobby the only mission that I can select is the prologue (and it shows that I have never completed it, though I have completed every mission on legendary). What gives?
A few weeks ago I had to put all of my armor back on, remake my loadouts, recreate my emblem, and remake my Service Tag, I would bet that these events are all related. Does anyone know if there is anything that I can do to get my campaign progress back? I really don’t want to play through all of the missions again for this challenge and to be able to do others in the future.
So, any fixes?
I tried searching around the forums, but the forum search isn’t that great if you ask me. That and the ones I found were three months old and had no solutions.
That’s EXACTLY what happened to me just a few days ago! I posted it on the Halo 4 Known Issues thread on page 349, but I haven’t gotten an answer either.
Everything was listed as “New Item” and back to default so I changed everything back to what it was. Then I went to the Campaign Page which was exactly where I left from my last session. I then changed the skulls for the challenge and right afterwards it reset itself to prolouge and my chapters and Legendary skull vanished; however, that’s only on the Campaign Page. If I go to the service record on the game and Waypoint all of my stats are correct save for one thing; it says that I have 0/7 terminals unlocked which is false. Furthermore I can’t watch my terminals because they’re gone even though I’ve collected them all.
I don’t mind stomping through Legendary again, but this issue doesn’t make any sense.
A bit of an update. I looked back a few more pages from my post on the Halo 4 Issue thread and found that someone had reported the same thing. DavidJCobb responded by saying this…
"Your profile data was corrupted. Things that are stored on Xbox LIVE or Halo servers (commendations, achievements, et cetera) remain intact, but any profile data that is stored only on your hard drive (unlocked Campaign missions) is lost.
The next time it happens, try recovering your profile ASAP. The Xbox LIVE servers keep a backup, so you may be able to retrieve an old (pre-data-loss) copy of your profile."
I’m hoping to get a reply from him about the process of recovering, but I really hope this doesn’t become a reoccurring problem.

From what I’ve read on the subject, you do this by deleting and re-downloading your profile data. However, I’ve never had this problem, so I can’t tell you from experience how likely this is to work. :\
I do hope you’re able to resolve your issue.
@DavidJCobb or anyone who knows…
I feel so dumb for asking, but where exactly do you go to delete/re-download profile data? If possible could you show me the source where this method came from and where it’s posted? I would feel a lot more comfortable doing this if I can see Positive results.
I thank you for you condolences and I apologize for acting so clinging on the subject.
Either go to the systems tab on your Xbox 360 and go to storage, then go to profiles, and you should be able to delete it. Then simply click the home button and select sign in and there is an option to download a profile.
I have yet to delete a profile, but I have 2 Xbox 360s and I changed my Gamertag and had to re-download my profile on my other one.
The method did not work for me and I’m not sure if it would make a difference if I had done it as soon as it happened either. Because I’m not too comfortable doing these things myself I called Xbox Support to give me directions through the steps; the person on the phone recommended me to clear the Cache and downloading my Profile.
The problem is not the hard drive, but the game itself; it’s a glitch within the system. Exactly as to why it’s happening I’m not sure, but the assistant mentioned it has to be something about how the game saves itself; Ironically, the person assisting me was also affected by the same thing! It’s a Small World After All…
At this time there is no known fix for this issue. The only thing we can do now is to keep bringing it up by calling Xbox Support and hope they send it to 343 to get it resolved.
Forum Team, I would be very grateful for this unresolved problem to be added in the Halo 4 Known Issues thread or in the Halo 4 Support FAQ thread; whichever would be the best place to put in so that other people who are or will be affected by this glitch can find the current status of the issue.

It is indeed a game glitch – one that Halo 4 inherited from Halo: Reach. It’s been known about for a while, but hasn’t been fixed. I suspect that’s because messing with save data code is risky business.
This is some sort of edge-case – it’s the result of a combination of circumstances that isn’t likely to show up in “lab tests”, but will show up when thousands of people are playing the game. If 343i (or Bungie before them) were to attempt to change stuff to fix the bug, there is a risk that they could introduce more or worse edge cases. I don’t know if this is the official reason why the bug hasn’t been addressed, but it seems to me to be the most likely one. :\
@DavidJCobb
Huh, I had no idea about Reach having that issue; this scenario also somewhat reminds me of the Gears of War 3 Campaign conundrum when it came out. As I’ve said I don’t mind playing through Legendary again, but I really hope it doesn’t come back to taunt my efforts; it’s bad enough that Campaign didn’t have theater. Again, thanks for the insight, DavidJCobb.
All my data has been lost too. I was working on opening up my NAT and when I loaded the game up all my stuff was wiped out. Nice.
