Campaign Coop Matchmaking and Netcode Improvements for Crossplay?

Does anyone think MCC will be getting Campaign Matchmaking and Crossplay Support in the future for all Halo Campaign plus Spartan Ops in the MCC? Also will CEA and 2A be getting 4 player coop in the future for the campaigns?

I hope campaign crossplay comes to MCC one day - it’ll do a huge favor for the collection altogether.

But knowing that they mentioned they need to do a lot of work with the ins and outs of each campaign’s netcode, I doubt crossplay will be coming anytime soon.

If they aren’t working on crossplay with campaign and Spartan Ops; little to no chance they’re going to work on allowing three to four players for CEA and 2A’s campaign.

I don’t know about Matchmaking, since it’s mainly for multiplayer and firefight. But, having a custom browser would be a lot better than matchmaking. firefight needs a custom browser too, along with Spartan Ops.
Crossplay needs to be a thing, along with the netcode and latency needs to be improved, as well!

Crossplay for campaigns in MCC is highly unlikely to ever happen. It’s been estimated at 6 to 12 months per game to update the old networking code and make it possible - you also have to factor in time for flighting, feedback and bug fixing. It’s possible just extremely unlikely due to time and resources

I really think this is not gonna be a thing since they did have most of the time while they were making session 8 for mcc…
they could of added it if they wanted too…
But again based on MCC netcoding for CGB an Campaigns NET-CODING…
Campaigns NET-CODING Is not like… CGBs netcoding aka Multiplayer…
This Kinda means that they have to make one for Spartan Ops. And Campaign…
But because they most likely wont do it since they are mostly working on #halo-infinite
I don’t see this being a thing…

And i am agreeing with @stckrboy here…
If they wanted to do it they would of, since they first bushed the CORSSPLAY Networking to public

Two things that were always high on my wish list for Halo: The Master Chief Collection was Campaign net code improvements (including cross play) and a Halo 3 Anniversary remaster.

With Halo: Infinite’s release MCC will likely take a back step, but I really hope that in the future, these two things will be brought to the top of the priority list because they have a potential to gather excitement once Halo: Infinite has quietened down.

Halo 3 cutscenes need the magic treatment, get Ron in a motion (facial) capture suite, he’s not getting any younger.

Would also be interesting to play Halo 3 but with updated graphics, it really stands a bit as the odd one out but it’s a huge favourite of players in the series.

When they redid the net code for Firefight I thought that was a good sign and exciting.

On reflection, I really wish they had tried with the net code at the beginning, we might have one or two of the games done by now.

You’d think it would get easier after the first one or two, from what they learned doing the first one for the remaining games, even if they’re different game engines must be some similarities.

Not sure on the 4 player co-op for CE and 2, that might be too much to accomplish.

Very unlikely CE and H2 will get 4 player co-op. Not only would it be boring because enemies will be evaporated instantly (even on legendary), I think some missions would be hard to implement, such as most missions in CE where you drop from a pelican. It’s not impossible to setup, but it might require an unreasonable amount of debugging to get right. I think there’s a hard stance that there’s no changing the netcode, and adding 2 more connections into the mix might be even more unplayable.

If 343 were to get everything for coop moved over to a new networking model from Peer to Peer, this will improve the netcode with playing with other over coop in the campaigns and would make playing them much more enjoyable by a huge amount! Firefight has shown that moving away from the Peer to Peer has made a much more enjoyable experience playing with 4 others. The problem I have with Firefight now is it gets too dull to play to quickly as there isn’t really that much challenge after you kind of done it all on a single map. If 343 wants to do something new for the campaigns, this would have to be one of several improvements for new features across the board such as you can matchmake any mode you want to play with others and every single campaign mission (and spatan ops mission) would be searchable in a matchmaking setting (over 110 missions to search in the MCC think about this! Its alot of missions to choose from, as many multiplayer maps as there are for campaign, it would be a huge new way to play the campaigns all the time with others without struggling to find other people to just play campaign missions for fun). Most of the time if you want to play with someone, you have to either 1: make a Looking for Group posting but most folks are more interested in going for something that is a challenge or achievement in campaign. Or 2: invite someone from your friends list, which is not always possible. So the bottom line is that the Coop side of things in Campaign and Spartan Ops right now is the weakest part of the collection right now, sure it “may” be playable if you and the off-host has a good connection but if not the off host will have a terrible time playing with you with lagging all over the place, this needs to change in the future I hope with moving everything over to dedicated server, it will be a vastly better experience. Another benefit of doing this is this also can help grant XP post match to you, which they cannot currently do this because there is no dedicated servers for campaign, so only challenges can be earned right now, this should get expanded out. Let us play campaign missions like in OG Reach where you earned XP just playing through missions for your profile.

Even if they were to move all campaigns to a new networking model, I don’t think they would add campaign matchmaking. They’ve said that back in Reach griefing was a huge issue in Campaign MM and the demand never really seemed there.

If 343 could add in Join in Progress to the campaigns (Halo 5 has this actually), even right now PVP matchmaking doesn’t have this either, they have said they are looking to add this in as a QOL update to the game for PVP to prevent players from AFAIKing or Idling in a match. Giving the other players control or some kind of timer for a person who is just sitting there but not moving for a while (maybe a 5 minute timer), the player would get automatically kicked out and then someone else can join in the missions to play with you. In a matchmaking setting this could really work, if 343 would be willing to do this over a couple years.
