I’ve tried Halo: CE and Halo 2 with my friends multiple times and it’s unplayable for anyone other than the party leader. Even though there were problems with this in the past on previous consoles, I would’ve assumed they were resolved using Xbox Live’s 300,000 cloud servers. Hopefully, this isn’t how it will stay because I’ve spent almost $200 on three digital copies of this game for myself and two friends. We couldn’t even begin to play through the campaigns co-op with it this bad, it’s a complete buzzkill.
So far there are no dedicated servers running this game, everything is client side, and I agree the lag is horrible. The only way I could play campaign co-op is to play on the same router with my brother but even that had slide lag and unresponsive controls.
Real shame.
That’s interesting because I’ve read that it’s running off of the Azure cloud servers. It seems kind of odd that it wouldn’t be since Halo is Microsoft’s baby. Why wouldn’t it leverage one of it’s biggest assets? In any case, local co-op and online co-op are completely different. Now, if it lagged on local co-op too I’d be really scared. Hopefully it gets resolved so my money isn’t completely wasted.

i got the same problem everybody except the host
THIS GAME IS BROKEN. This has gone on long enough! This abuse of the Halo Fan base is appalling. Ever since 343 Studios took over the Halo franchise they have been surfing the hype wave that was rightfully earned by Bungie studios. Every single halo experience this studio has put out has been a broken piece of garbage. namely. this INPUT LAG for the joining party in coop. This issue has been in EVERY HALO GAME they’ve put out. even worse they refuse to acknowledge its existence and ignored countless halo fans feedback on this issue. HALO THE MASTER CHIEF COLLECTION IS A SINGLE PLAYER/SYSTEM LINK GAME ONLY!!! HALO IS DEAD. This is a very sad day for the Halo community including myself. I have been a halo fan from the beginning. I own every single game on all platforms. I have been playing this series since its launch in 2001. And I know a lot of you remember the seamless experience we all had with HALO 3’s 4 player CO-OP that WORKED FLAWLESSLY ON LAUNCH NIGHT!!! in fact my party played through the entire game with NO INPUT LAG AT ALL from START to FINISH!!! and for the record i do not own a PS4. I will be asking for a refund. There will be groups forming to demand a recall/refund soon. I will post the link to this site. stay tuned guys. AND BY THE WAY! any game review site that does NOT mention this problem is a bribe grabbing fraud and all further communication from those outfits should be avoided. I can’t play co-op halo 2 because every time we start it up it says u have lost connection to it game session so we can’t even begin the mission
Not only has this problem not been fixed but literally every single campaign in co-op is unplayable. Me and my mates tonight then decided let’s try and play it 4 player co-op Halo 3 on legendary…We never got past the first cut scene it lagged so bad. How is it that today in the year 2016 a company can release a game so incredibly broken and simply sweep it under the carpet like nothing ever happened? What’s worse…I encouraged a friend to get the game just yesterday so we started playing today. With terrible lag We actually took turns in who would be the party host for each mission so that we could take turns in lagging. 343…Why? Why create something like this and simply decide not to fix it or knowingly leave such a problem. If you are looking to buy this game DO NOT BUY IT! For campaign purposes or playing with friends…You are wasting your time! 343 Fix this piece of garbage.
