Hi everybody,
Call me late to the party, but I recently purchased Halo Master Chief Collection on Xbox One X (purely for nostalgic reasons). I am enjoying playing on legendary, starting from Reach, and twice now I have lost a significant amount of my game progress when starting up my console. The most recent case was this past weekend, where after a huge Xbox update (and then a huge Halo update which looked like the game completely reinstalling), my campaign had set me back to the start of the level. Turns out I was only one checkpoint away from the end too, so I had to play the entire level again just to make up what I’d lost.
This was not the first time either, because some point last year I also randomly lost my mid-level checkpoint (in an earlier level), being reset to the start. I believe there could have also been an xbox and/or game update on this occasion between last playing the game, and losing the checkpoint. I should point out that I ALWAYS save and quit from the in game menu, and turn off the console properly. Is this a known problem where after updates, checkpoints are wiped out? Or the updates are a coincidence and we are talking about a buggy save and quit? As you can imagine, super frustrating to play a couple hours on legendary difficulty, only to have to replay an entire level again after returning to the game a few weeks later. After realising, I struggled to find the patience to continue, because who’s to say it won’t happen again whenever I quit mid-level?
I already called Microsoft Support about the issue, who tried to recover the save from the cloud by resetting my console, but as expected, this didn’t help. They cannot do anymore to help without me first contacting the publisher, so here I am. Thanks for reading, although I’m hoping to get a response from 343 themselves!
Regards,
Guru
