Campaign and Multiplayer Launching Separate?

So, with the most recent community update, its speculated by some that they will show only the campaign on July 23rd and nothing of the multiplayer. While I would love to see the multiplayer in some capacity (even a teaser), lets say they don’t show it. And its only the Campaign. I’m okay with this myself but I’m wondering if that means 343i may be trying to potentially get more flighting time and testing done for the multiplayer and it not launching with the campaign this holiday. This way their main focus right now is making the story as good as possible (a great thing) and then getting multiplayer nailed down and right for a later launch but with an amazing caveat. The multiplayer launching Free to Play down the road (a few months after launch). The entire multiplayer suite: Forge, custom games, matchmaking, everything. This would be amazing and considering how the most popular games right now are pretty much all free to play, maybe 343i thinks this is the best way to get Halo Infinite in as many people’s hands as possible and for it to compete in todays crowded gaming landscape? Not a bad way to go in my opinion but Tell me what you guys think, is this too farfetched or is it something you could envision happening?

Pretty sure there’s been several threads on this topic already, (and the “Multiplayer FTP?!” topic) and the answer’s always been “Sorry, but that’s just speculation right now.”

I’m responding under the assumption “MP and SP launch separately” even though I don’t think it’s likely to happen in any form different than how you can pick what parts if MCC install.

If they launch as separate entity’s I would imagine campaign would be at a cost, and MP would be free, with the same launch date for both.

I’ve never seen a thread here for it so I figured I’d post it just for thought. You didn’t even give your thoughts on what you would think. I don’t think it will happen as separate releases but if it did, it wouldn’t surprise me is my main point considering how gaming has changed even since Halo 5 released back in 2015

its’ hard to see Xbox Game Studios lanching a game 50% ready

I completely agree. I do think though that the multiplayer portion will be free to play and download. Getting more people to try the game is always a good thing

I could see a future installment pushing for a ftp Multiplayer portion of the game similar to COD’s BR playlist, but I doubt it will ever be the full experience. Not to mention It would be a huge mistake to do something like this with a launch title. I can’t see MS doing it, especially not with Game Pass. I also doubt they would divide sp and mp in two separated releases, the backlash for H5 being a halbaked game almost five years ago was simply too big to be ignored.

Highly unlikely that there will be no MP in Infinite and frankly I doubt it will be like GTA Online that launched a year after release and exists as a somewhat separate game from GTA 5.

No, it would be unbelievably stupid for Halo Infinite to launch without effectively 50% of its content. It’s not a big deal for a game like TLOU2 where multiplayer is a neat addition to a primarily single-player game, but for Halo, it would be catastrophic.

343 would delay the game before launching it with only campaign.

It’s been rumored, but there’s certainly a possibility

I sure as hell hope not. They need 100% of a game if they’re gonna justify the new $70 price tag. I’d like to have the full package for a change…

I don’t see it happening, but I can see 343 releasing a full fledged campaign with a barebones multiplayer experience (Scarce maps, no forge). They have given us reason think so with Halo 5’s lackluster launch. However, they have also given us reason think that won’t be the case. From h4 → h5 they had about 3 years for development, and it showed. From H5 → Infinite it will be a full 5 year cycle, so hopefully those extra 2 years have really helped smooth out development. Plus I believe the budget for this game is rumored to be $500 million --before marketing-- which is significantly larger than the H5 budget (from doing some googling), so I think this game has a lot going for it in terms of time + resources on hand. We’ll see soon enough though.

How do you know it will cost $70 ? On topic, I’m ok with a separate multiplayer, I’m not sure they’ll launch at different times, but I can see a full priced campaign launching along side a free multiplayer.

I don’t. But the idea has been circling around. I’d be fine if the mp was free but I would prefer everything be included.

IMO, launching them separately would be a death wish on 343’s part. In this current gaming climate, the mp would be forgotten about shortly after the campaign is out and there would be very little hype behind it’s release.

I’m alright with waiting an extra year for the CORE multiplayer to drop, assuming they need extra time. As long as the campaign, new weekly spartan ops campaigns, firefight modes, and warzone / invasion modes are available, I’d be pretty happy.

If you look at gears 5, they had campaign, escape (equivalent of spartan ops), horde (equivalent of firefight), and core multiplayer + few maps during launch. They have been releasing updates throughout the year (new maps / characters / game modes) and new escape maps, but after almost a year, the game still feels woefully incomplete. As long as Halo Infinite has complete customization options and all the characters available (and voice announcers) for unlocking at the start, that would be quite an achievement.
