The legendary ending shows atriox was sent back 100,000 years into the past.
I’m not 100% sure of this one.
First: The only difference between “normal” ending and legendary is the audio. And only in legendary there is the “time stamp”.
This would mean, every other viewer who hasn’t played on legendary wouldn’t know which year this takes place, which would be a little odd and I don’t really see why they would only include it on legendary.
I understood it in a way that the year displays the year of the audio-recording, to show it’s from the past.
Second:
The Endless were discovered the same year in 97,368 BCE. That’s also the Time Stamp of the Legendary Audio.
I don’t really see why Atriox should travel to this exact moment of time. There is nothing really to gain. The Endless have already been “judged” by the Foreunners, otherwise Atriox couldn’t free them, as the video shows. The Brute don’t even really exist back then, so there is not much he could do right now.
So I think the scene takes place in ~2560 and 97,368 BCE is really just about the audio.
I agree that the presentation of this scene is confusing, but the context of the scene talking about how time is a construct they cannot control tells me that time travel is definitely a possibility. The audio mentions that despondent pyre won’t be alone, and the framing implies that Atriox is her partner. Either way I don’t think we can say for 100% which way the scene is intended to be understood. I lean more toward time travel because I just expect the worst from 343’s writing this far.
The fracture events also tells me that this is how they could be tapping into that idea of alternate timelines/universe.
Doesn’t this refer to Offensive Bias?
But yes, since they want to study The Endless’ secrets, there seems to be something they want to copy, probably time travel.
I am hoping for new biomes and maps in year two. They have too many basic features and bugfix/polishing actions to do in year one.
Doing my best to like the game for what it is.
Pretty much felt the same way. It is a really fun open world game…not a great Halo game.
