Am I the only one who thinks they should include camouflage patterns for armor customization? It would allow some of us to make our spartans look more tactical for certain environments. It could also add to the spartan lore. Other suggestions for customization:
-Being able to adjust armor dirtiness level so that you can look clean if you want or battle worn
-Different color patterns in the helmet and other parts of the body (basically extending the patterns for the entire body to every single body part)
-Adjust height, weight, ethnicity, age of your spartan within certain limits of course (a 5ft4 spartan wouldn’t be realistic)
-Being able to add visual injuries and damages to your spartan and his armor
That’s quite a double-edged sword: while it would bring players closer to their Spartans, certain elements have to be factored in:
- Pacing. Implementing dirt, battle damage, and camouflage would likely encourage camping. While I harbour a dislike for 343’s armour design choices and colour palette, they have made it quite difficult to blend into the scenery, prompting more aggressive gameplay. - Combat fairness. Differently sized characters require different hitboxes, which would create an imbalance. 343 could implement movement speed penalties and/or other changes to compensate but that’s a huge gameplay overhaul. - Usefulness vs. resource investment. Ethnicity could be impactful if voice actors are used but considering how rarely Spartans in multiplayer are shown unarmoured it would be a waste of resources unless certain changes are made, such as pre and post-game screens (for multiplayer) and cutscenes (for co-op story modes), to give a couple of examples. They’re some interesting ideas but I’m concerned about the repercussions of implementing them.

Blending in the scenery has never been an important part of halo even with reach’s more organic colors. I think campers will continue to have success regardless of the color of their armor. You also have to remember that personalised armor colors are limited to free for all game types. I do not think it will have an impact on such modes which are more close-combat focused. When it comes to height I could see an impact on gameplay but if they can keep the heights measures within reasonable parameters (5ft10 to 6ft6) it would remain similar to having elites. In arcade playlists, most people wouldn’t care, in ranked or e-sports matches they could adjust player height the same way that they regulated elites. When it comes to ethnicity it certainly isn’t a vital feature but in reach we were able to see our Spartan’s face, therefore making it so that we can chose our skin color, etc, seems like a simple improvement considering the engine and resources that 343 has. Ultimately, I think even the smallest details matter in order to make this the best experience possible. There might be some potential complications but overall, I think the positives far outweigh the negatives.
I like all these ideas except the size differences, that would cause issues in balancing.
When I read the title my mind went to the camo pickup, I thought you just wanted to be straight up invisible all the time but the I realized you meant the IRL pattern lol
Everything here sounds fine except changing the size of your spartan. That would just be really imbalanced.
I agree with fully skully and god1383. I also don’t really see the need for being able to customize your spartan under the armor considering you don’t see it, but I’m not against it if they have a social space or something that actually justifies its presence.
Camouflage Patterns on Armor
Indifferent in this. I don’t think I’d use it so…
Armor Battle-damage/dirtiness
I would REALLY love this. You either have a clean, sleek armor, or a set which has seen better days. Personally, I’d add in some battle damage as to homage my “Spartan persona” (iow, Spartan OC);
Different Color Patterns for each armor piece
Not sure. Destiny 2 has that system and it’s either a hit or miss. I’ve had examples of some shaders having a cool color combo but just looking awful when applied onto the armor or weapon themselves. Then there’s the issue that it may not look the same for all the armors. (In D2, all my armor has the Midnight Talons shader, but the helmet worked differently, which had me use Suros Modular instead, for a full white armor).
Height, weight, age and ethnicity options for Spartans
Gonna have to give a big no. Height and weight, whether you want ot not, affect gameplay. Everyone would choose to be short and slim to avoid the most damage possible. Age and ethnicity is completely useless. Not only are we ALWAYS wearing helmets and never taking them off, but as long as you project yourself to your Spartan, you don’t need such system.
I like the idea of making the spartan armor look battle worn and dirty, Reach did this perfectly. I always thought the armor for H5 looked to plastic and shiny. It doesn’t resemble a metal suit.

Yes sir, you are absolutely right, just changed the title to make it less confusing.
