It might just be me, but I’ve been picking up on a pattern in H4 that doesn’t seem as effective as it was in Reach. The boltshot, seeing its a loadout option now, has more or less replaced the shotgun as a preferred around-the-corner-camo-ambush. While effective, it criticized quite frequently as a nob tactic. With maps like Complex I am finding a pattern that should in the long run discourage the practice.
In one particular match that stands out on Complex, the tactic worked once, maybe twice, it became after that the whole team lobbing grenades into the building (you know which one I’m talking about). The funny thing? More than one of the opposing team was doing it, and after getting ratted out they still returned to camp out.
Once our team was aware of this, we either grenaded the room or avoided it. I became very aware of both the score and the time remaining in the match. The camo-campers with boltshot, while getting kills true, were taking a very long time getting them. From my point-of-view, the tactic was literally becoming a waste of time.
The shotgun still shows up on an ordinance drop, but unless a team is coordinated and baiting the opposing team into an ambush, doesn’t this tactic seem wasteful to a team as a whole and even to the individual who is wasting time waiting for someone to come by?
My two cents on some recent gameplay, thought I would share.
First off seeing that the Shotgun only spawns on Harvest as an actual weapon drop, is considered rare to get in an ordnance drop, and add that fact that you can spawn with a Boltshot it only makes sense then that the Boltshot would become the new go-to CQC weapon.
Secondly regarding your point about camping, while its entirely opinionated over whether or not your wasting time it is a legitimate way to play the game, be it sitting in the back of a map with a Sniper Rifle or around the corner cloaked with a Boltshot.
What you’re saying holds true but really only because Complex is your example.
The Boltshot on Abandon and Adrift is a pretty powerful tool.
I don’t think it should be nerfed however.
I think the best solution for this weapon is to have a full shotgun blast waste a whole clip instead of a half clip.
Very true. I think my big issue is that the combo at times is so heavily relied upon that when its apparent it isn’t working in one particular match or map, the user isn’t changing up their tactics.
In regards to being nerfed,I agree and that actually goes for all weapons, I’m willing to live with what we have been given and strategize around it.

The reason why I say this is when the camo/boltshot camper is discovered and its apparent he really isn’t moving at all is that he simply becomes something to avoid to a degree in which he isn’t getting kills for his team, and in effect turning it into a 4 v 3.
