Came back to Halo 5, this is weird

I took a break from the game because it seemed like 343i wasn’t going to do anything to improve the experience, and it seemed like they weren’t going to listen to the community.

Coming back I’m pleasantly surprised to find the new maps, even if Pegasus is still there for some reason. Some of the new forge maps are fantastic, some not so much, but you win some, lose some.
But, it seems like they went all out pro on the weapons balancing. I do not want to use the pistol in all circumstances, and it seems like it’s the only choice available if you want to win shootouts. To make it seem even more punishing, seems like they nerfed the heck out of just about anything that could beat it. So what’s the deal with that?

Not sure that I like saying this, but coming back to give the game a second chance leaves me conflicted, from the brief look I had on the forums, 343i has left things as they are for long enough that it seems final. Is the game still being supported with updates and balancing? Or should I give up and take my custom elsewhere?

Yes take it elsewhere

The game is still being supported by a sustain team that focuses on playlist refreshes, community playlists, and consolidation efforts.

Big content updates, bug fixes, or major balancing isn’t likely at this time.

Nevertheless, be careful about what you read within some of the threads. People love to post doom and gloom, but the game in general is pretty damn awesome.

H5 can be fun but frustrating as well. You should try MCC. I am absolutely loving the match composer. It’s so nice to be able to play the title you want and game type you want. Nothing but BTB slayer is super sweet.

I personally only came back to the game because of Anniversary Throwback. Like you, I’m extremely put off by how terrible weapons like the BR are, forcing the Magnum to be the go-to weapon. I’ll be leaving again once it’s out of this rotation. The game was pretty awesome with some frustrations from time to time, but those weapon updates screwed everything up.

Yeah the BR change single handedly reunite big team battle for me. Used to be my favorite playlist l. Now the br is so inconsistent but it’s the starting weapon so you’re Hosed. I remember pulling several perfects with it before the update. Now it’s rare to get one. Plus combine the inconsistency with lag and you have an unusable weapon.

I don’t know what to say, other than it seems like the game isn’t accessible for casual players or those of us who aren’t pro. I don’t understand how they expect people to buy their games if they’re frustrating to play, I may try the MCC, at least Bungie knew how to give their audience what they wanted half the time.

It seems like their main focus is now on Halo Infinite, trouble is, how can I (we?) justify paying for the next game after the way this one ended up.

No kidding. Thought I’d try out Quick Play and I ended up leaving every match. I freaking hate this game’s PvP because of those weapon updates. The worst part is 343i knows Halo 5 was an utter mess what with the “games as a service” nonsense. They finally got everything together for this game after a couple years and then decided to burn everything and make it a complete pile of junk. All this frustration bled into Anniversary Throwback too, something I was having such a good time with. Now I don’t think I’ll be touching this thing for some time. There’s really no other Halo game that causes this much frustration.

Time to stick to MCC for when I do want to play Halo. The weapons work and the menus aren’t filled with intelligence insulting casinos like in Halo 5.

Yeah I’m surprised you actually played quick play. I searched in there for like 20 minutes and never found a single game lol. “Quick play” not sure that’s the best name for that playlist. And btb is literally only squads of 5-8 players that have all played 46+ days. Couldn’t believe how sweaty socials are in this game.
