What are we going to do about custom games? how can we make them awesome again. Everything I can think of would have to be done by 343, here is my break down.
So custom games were huge in H2, why? Well matchmaking was swamped with modders. Custom games were pretty big in H3, why? well forge was a brand new thing for Halo and was really cool. Also we were not missing out on potential credits for ranking up, and with bungie favorites there was an increase in incentive to create awesome maps and gametypes. In Reach custom games are struggling, though not gone and can sometimes be very fun. What can we do to make sure they bloom again in H4? well we don’t want to decrease the value of matchmaking or do anything to make people not want to play matchmaking. So I say look at H3, forge hasn’t even been talked about as far as I know so it is possible there will not be forge(unless there was an announcement idk about which is very possible). However, assuming there is forge my friend had a nice idea which is similar to bungie favorites, pretty much every week or so 343 will choose their favorite custom map and gametype and the people they choose will get not only the joy of being the winner, but also a credit jackpot of some kind giving incentive to make sweet maps. another route they could take would to just give us more credits for playing custom games. And lastly my suggestion would be to improve forge, we don’t need these dumb screen effects or little lights, give us textures and interactive object, stuff like so many other games from 5+ years ago already have done. Personally I like the bungie favorites idea the most because it includes an easy way of sharing the maps, while the other ideas just allow for more gameplay of custom games, but not necessarily more variety.
Word.
Custom Games are more important than Matchmaking to a games longevity, in my opinion, especially with industry jewels like Forge included.
I, personally, would find it amazing if 343i would implement a Custom Games browser. If not for Halo 4, then maybe for Halo 5.

HA! What a wonderful gamertag
1.) What they need to keep customs alive is the ability to adapt to the wants of the consumers. Say they released H4 and the turrets like HR were detachable… But you want to remake Tower of Power on Ascension from H2 custom and require a non-detachable turret. If enough people request it they should add it as an option in a patch. (Obviously the patches would contain dozens of updates).
2.) We need the ability to create out own basic pieces and adjust sizes to fit our needs.
3.) We need to be able to choose what pieces are available to us and not have a stupid cap on items… we already have the money cap… also stupid. I have modded maps that break those and they work just fine. A better system would be to have a meter that gauges whether there is too much stuff in one area, and if there is remove texture as needed.
4.) Action sack needs to feature the best custom maps and gametypes. Not Dino Blasters.
5.) Lastly and most importantly, being able to build terrain would be ideal. In the Army they have CPOF, and if you want it to the computer will take the topographical map and build it in 3D. Add an excavating tool for caves and tunnels, a texture tool for grass, sand, etc and we’re on our way.
6.) Let modders mod. People making the game more fun putting a scorpion tank turret on a warthog? Yes please. It’s not like it get’s in the way of matchmaking. Let us share our creations and ideas with the community. You give people the tools and they will build what sets Halo apart form the others.
