call it Team Slayer, not Slayer Pro

I think the word “Pro” is turning many casuals away before they give it a chance. They assume it’s not for them.

Its not the name of the game that is causing people not to want to play it. 343 could call it Super Slayer and if the settings are not to their liking, they wont want to play it.

Frankly I believe a lot of it is the name.

Most arguments around it have been “I DON’T WANT TO BE FORCED INTO A TEAM, I HATE PLAYING AGAINST TRYHARDS, I HATE <perceived stereotype about competitive gametypes>”.

But do those things happen in actuality?

First of all, it’s in the Infinity playlist. Meaning that mostly the same (casual) people playing Infinity are the ones playing Slayer Pro, the same (casual) matchups are happening just as they always have been.

Second, and tying into the above, almost no one is creating teams and jumping into Infinity Slayer to play competitively. Throwdown already exists for that and is more optimized for it. So the notion that “Pro leads to vastly more tryhards in Infinity” is also unsupported.

Third, the only differences outside of vanilla traits between Halo 3 and Slayer Pro are the lack of an AR (being implemented anyways) and the lack of Radar.

People do not use automatics often in Infinity Slayer to begin with, nor were they used frequently in Halo 3 when BR starts were chosen, so the removal of them really isn’t making it significantly more challenging.

And I can guarantee that even if you added radar, the population would stay what it is now.

Classic Slayer I think would be best, as it shows that it’s the original gametype of halo. This way it will actually bring more people than turn them away.

I admit that this happened to me at first. “Pro? Precision weapons only? lolno”

Then I realized that all the other settings were standard Slayer, how it should be, minus Radar (not a big deal), and no automatics (big issue for me, but being fixed today), and now I consider it much better than Infinity, especially in BTB!

So yes, it should be renamed to just “Slayer”.

Agree with OP.

The word PRO put me off until I actually played it. I, like a great number of casual gamers (wrongly) equated PRO with MLG, ARENA, TRYHARD etc.

It should be called CLASSIC SLAYER or simply SLAYER.

(oh and turn the radar back on, at least for BTB)

If a name was all that was needed to make something popular, Super Slayer would have been wildly popular. After all, its not only Slayer, its SUPER Slayer.

Consumers are not zombies, they know what they like and why they like it, the vast majority just dont care for the settings of Pro.

Nobody said the name is the only factor, but it is A factor.

The name of a product can have a huge effect on a product’s popularity. In blind tests, people ate two separate samples of baked beans, one marked ‘Heinz’ the other one marked ‘supermarket’s own brand’. 9/10 people said they preferred the Heinz. In fact both samples were Heinz. The experiment was to show the suggestibility of people to names and labels.

I know for a fact some people were put off by the ‘pro’ label. How do i know? Because I was one of them as were a few other posters on this thread. Just because you don’t see or understand this point doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

Like I say its not the only factor. You rightly point out that the settings are a larger more important factor. But it is A factor.

I agree. Although I am a HUGE advocator for “Pro” gametypes, I would like to play it more, and consumer sciences suggest a name change to be the best way to go. Add in Throwdown BRs, and you have your Team Slayer. Call THAT “Slayer Pro”.
