I do have some brief experience from Halo 5: Guardians from back when it first released, but I’m only going to be just now buying it. Is there anything I should know about the game in regards to what’s changed?
- The story still sucks
- The MP is still good
- It still has advanced movement
- Forge is okay

Is Tanaka’s speech to Osiris still horrible?

I look forward to it.
Depends on what your looking to achieve. It’s say if you’re looking to rank up and/or unlock items, just make sure you open only bronze packs until they nolonger yeild unlocked items, then move to opening silver packs only until this nolonger yeild unlocks, then gold.

I’ve been opening silver ones on Halo Waypoint, and I’ve only gotten one or two permanent items. If I go with bronze first, I’ll be more likely to get good stuff in silver packs later on?

Correct. If you open up silver or gold you would get unlock items of bronze level mixed in, unless all the bronze level items are unlocked already.

Forget the bronze, there’s no guaranteed unlock. Go to silvers. I used to open 3 silvers to 1 gold at a time that way I got a good mix of weapons. The only time I opened bronze was to get the worthless mongoose.
Remember, if you play through the campaign, you’ll mostly be playing as Locke. Master Chief plays 3 out of 15 missions and one of those 3 is acts as a sort of hub area (you don’t fight anyone.
Well a lot has changed since it first released as there has been a ton of updates. The primary thing most should know with H5 is that it’s a very “un-welcoming” game for new players. Multiplayer wise you should probably know the pistol is the primary utility weapon. You should definitely use it the most. Other weapons can be used in the right situations but it just takes playing to figure it out. The AR can be good but it’s no longer “spray and pray” it works best burst fired and zoom in if you can and definitely aim for the head as it gets head shot damage multiplier. In arena my favorite playlist was probably super fiesta or btb fiesta both really fun. Ranked I would only rank FFA as I am a solo player and the team games if you don’t have regulars to team up with randoms can drive you crazy. Warzone you won’t have much luck in at first because you don’t have reqs to use. Heroic warzone firefight is probably the best playlist as it’s low stress and fun to play. But since you have no reqs it won’t be all that fun for you. That doesn’t mean you can’t play warzone. If you do just play conservatively and see what reqs you can find laying on the ground that players dropped when they died or jump into turrets of vehicles if you can. Campaign gets more hate than it deserves. It had some great missions and level designs but the story was pretty bad. But H5 can be a fun game especially if you like competitive games. I just hope you aren’t trying to max out the game as getting enough req points and then enough XP to max it out is hella long.
The Arena multiplayer is at the relative end of its lifespan. It’s mostly medium-to-high skilled players left in the game. I would imagine if you’re coming relatively in fresh and unfamiliar this could really -Yoink!- the experience because it’s an extremely unforgiving environment to learn the game in. On weekends there seems to be a little more variety in players. In social game modes, particularly ones where everyone has power weapons, this effect is felt a little bit less.
The story is awful. I beat it just for the achievements and pure tradition’s sake, although there’s no split screen so that tradition was out the window pretty quick. Any replay value there is strictly just for either fun with friends or going for more achievements/higher difficulties. It’s good for learning the controls and some of your capabilities and weapons but that’s really about it. Also, Nathan Fillion
.
Warzone and warzone firefight are decent game modes but again, largely filled with highly skilled players who get high level REQs pretty quick and dominate the game or suck up all the AI kills early. Harder and harder to find a more laid back match. But overall this is still where I have the most fun after Social games.
-the Req system seems fun at first but it quickly can become a terrible grind and it’s, IMO, a terrible way to unlock armor and customization. You’ll probably never get all of it unless you’re seriously dedicated and the RNG lords are merciful.
Halo 5 has the best Forge of all time, hands down, but it could’ve benefited from the second best Forge of all time (Reach’s) UI. It’s confusing and highly complicated but you can do a TON with it. Literally limitless. Literally entire other games exist within Halo 5 thanks to the Forge and Custom games options. Which brings me to…
-Custom Games
long after muilptayer dies I think this game might still carry high replay appeal thanks to the custom games browser and the limitless map and mode variety.

- Campaign is ok-ish. Best thing about the campaign to me are the moments starring Buck and Chief/Blue Team. Now for multiplayer things you should know:
- Ranked/Social Standard Slayer: If you wanna win, sharpen up your magnum sharpshooting, grenade tossing, and power weapon pad farming. This late into Halo 5 you won’t get far gunning down players with the AR unfortunately(shame too cause AR is nice in this game). This however does not apply to Arena Fiesta unless you get AR/Magnum or their respective variants. - Warzone/Warzone Assault: If you want a good time, get a team together and hope for the best. If you’re playing solo, good luck and hope you don’t have a bad time. If you REALLY want to avoid having a bad time…avoid warzone assault to avoid being ‘Core farmed’. - Warzone Firefight: Nice way to get XP/Req points and fun with friends, the difficulty choosing is up to you. - Forge: Meh, haven’t really toyed with it but it’s ok I guess.
