Button Mapping

I don’t know about everyone else, but this is a feature I want to be finally present in the Halo games. Throughout the games I’ve never found a control scheme that perfectly fitted my needs and usually ended up playing on Default. I’d like to play Bumper Jumper, but I’ve always hated that reload is mapped to “B.” Now it’s even worse because sprint is mapped to “A” instead of “Left Stick.” Since Infinite is going to be on PC and almost certainly going to have mappable controls why shouldn’t console players get the same treatment?

Yes, I’m aware you can now map the Xbox One controller, but this changes the buttons across the entire system and every single game you play.

Anyway, anyone else want this feature?

Definitely, im actually surprised there hasnt been individual button mapping for individual games in most cases on consoles yet. It should be something that goes without saying.

But i guess if its never asked then its not as likely to be in the game so fingers crossed that it will be in infinite.

Well usually game designers do a good job with mapping their controls. If not people usually just learn to live with them. I do want to be able to change Halo’s controls, however. It’s a relatively simple multiplayer game. We should be able to map our buttons.

I’m not against this, but button mapping is sort of a nice to have (not really a need to have) thing. If game developers do a good enough job with their controls then most players don’t need this.

Options do exist for the more competitive players as elite controllers can easily do this for any game.

Like I said, the options provided by the developer don’t really do it for me. I’d like the ability to map them myself.

Also, I said I was aware of the button mapping via the controller. You can actually do this with a regular Xbox One controller now and don’t require the Elite. As I stated earlier the problem comes in where it changes the buttons for every single game you play, not just Halo.

Oh I wasn’t aware this could be done on all controllers, thanks. I’ve used an elite controller for some time now (I really like the bumpers underneath). Elite controllers also give you a switch underneath so you can toggle it to different configurations for different games. I know that’s not a solution for everyone, but it’s something.

I do think button mapping is a nice option when game developers toss it in there, so no real reason they shouldn’t do it in Halo Infinite.

I just absolutely refuse to shell out $150 for a controller. Daylight robbery if you ask me.

That would be wonderful. I use an elite so it’s not an issue for me but it’d be a nice feature to have.

Basically the control schemes are easy to adapt to but free mapping of the buttons would definitely be more user friendly.

I’m not a game dev, but this seems pretty easy to accomplish.

Well, default control schemes are a little easier to implement. You can define the action of a button with some variables and an if statement, but you’d need to create a more dynamic system for button mapping.

I’m sure they could do it. Just have a way to assign each button’s event a certain function based on input from the controller mapping settings. Devs probably do harder things for their job than this.

I totally agree with you bro. An in game button mapping would be awesome. Fallout 4 does this very well so I don’t see why 343 would have any problem implementing it in Halo Infinite.

The controller is awesome to play with. It’s a piece of trash in terms of durability though. Bumper snapped off twice so far, and my left analog stick just cracked. It still works, but its like…sunken in a little. Definitely messes up my strafe sometimes.

If you do buy it…get the extended warranty at best buy…or…take advantage of walmart when it messes up loo

But thats only if u ever decide to get one.
