Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. I couldn’t find anything about it.
I loaded up Halo 5 for a quick Arena Team Slayer match before work this morning. My team narrowly won, and I myself did very poorly, because my controls were way wonky.
After a minute I realized that I could dash, but it was mapped to LB, I think. Grenades were on Left Trigger, which should have been aim. So I know that my button mappings were changed–I play on all defaults, except max sensitivity.
I hate to do this, but I found a relatively safe corner to hide in so I could go into the menu and change my button layout. I didn’t know why it would’ve been changed. I don’t have kids and I know my wife didn’t change it because she doesn’t like Halo, plus we were together all night from the time I last played yesterday until I went down to the den and played my match this morning. I have one other Xbox One at work, but it’s in an obscure location that only 4 people have access to, none of whom would have been at work last as I was the last to leave, and the first of them won’t be at work until 45 minutes from now.
Regardless of all that, when I checked Controller Settings in the menu, it said it was still set to default. So I closed the menu and tried to play again, but the mappings were still wrong. So I went and hid again, went back to the menu, tried to find the layout that matched what I was getting, couldn’t do so before I was found and attacked, so I exited the menu immediately to fight. This resulted in my incidentally changing the layout to Recon, so I went back to the menu after respawning and re-hiding, and switched back to Default. This ended up fixing the issue.
TL;DR:
Button layout glitched to different mappings, was fixed by switching layouts, exiting menu, then switching back.
