Halo 1 and 2 had button glitches that made the game uber competitive. Now we all know they were mistakes and never meant to be in the game on purpose, but they did add a dynamic to the game that made it skillful outside of the game itself. I was just curious if any game has ever done this on purpose? Purposely placing button combos in a game could be considered groundbreaking and revolutionary, giving Halo 4 an edge in the FPS market…#justsaying
i don’t understand why any combos should be added. Its a shooter, not a button mashing hack’n’slash O.o
Never played CE so no comment on that
Halo 2 would have failed as a competitve titles without them
Halo 2 without button glitches would have the same stale game play as Halo 3.
As long as Halo 4 isn’t like Halo 3 where you push with your team and hope for the best then it do not need Button Glitches.
It would be a very interesting dynamic to have it in as a feature. BXR/BXB is entirely doable, makes logical sense that a spartan should be able to pull off a beat down then another or then a shot fast. Telling a player to press X to reset your gun faster into position when full ammo doesn’t seem too outlandish. Backpack reload could be done easily too.
Doubleshot it might be difficult, could have that spartan slap the gun or something I guess and two shots come out… LOL. Trying to make it logical in hopes of having these things back. It’s sad to see the glitches from CE and H2 die, they were a lot of fun to do.
SFIV and it’s FADC is one mechanic I always look back at when it comes it this type of thing. Having a legit way to cancel things in an FPS could allow for a lot of creative things. We can always hope these things will resurface some day. Maybe a Halo 4 throwback double exp weekend, where the glitches are in.
I’m not going to rule it out as an impossibility. I mean, look at CE:A. They put the old glitches from CE in. There’s still hope, maybe not for H4 but for H2 HD. Having them recognized as legit gameplay mechanics would be awesome though.

They were glitches. They did not improve gameplay. They hurt gameplay.
No.
actually that is a very intriguing idea!
it would certainly change gameplay up and make it more skilled oriented for difficult combos, but at the same time im not the biggest fan of combos so id still like to play with them off the majority of the time. It would be nice to test out though
I’d love to see a return of button combos in H4.
Just think of the posibilities of what they could do if they made them intentionally.

not gonna lie I only read the first paragraph of this but…
i dont get it
a huge reason why people were complaining about halo reach was double beat downs. SO why are people saying that double beat down adds skill if you only have to press an extra x button in between b’s to do it? hyprocrites i say.
you know what I think? People just love -Yoinking!- hating, no matter what, yall be hatin all the time and everyone talks out of their -Yoink- holes and says whatever comes to their minds without thinking

Opinion.

I wonder if you would be singing the same tune if they were intended and not just some glitches. Say in Halo 4 they are known combos and possibly even have tuts for them in the game manual.
It’s like the evolution of a controller, without changing the controller. It’s not Button mashing, but rather a button gesture that rewards players who gesture well. (like pitching in MLB games, but with buttons rather than the stick)
I’ve played halo CE and 2, I have no clue what you are talking about…
button combos are glitches. saying that they raise the skill gap is like saying an invincibility glitch raises the skill gap.

This is a shooter, not a fighting game.
> button combos are glitches. saying that they raise the skill gap is like saying an invincibility glitch raises the skill gap.
That is the most ignorant comparison I have ever seen in my life.
Cool story bro.

You are wrong.

in what way?

Equating Button combos to an invincibility glitch.

but how are they different. they are both glitches that give unfair advantage.
Groundbreaking? Revolutionary? These words aptly describe the first game with 3D graphics, or the first multiplayer, or the first game to implement a proper storyline in the campaign. Button combos… are you kidding me? That’s about as mundane as mundane gets. People these days really need to learn what words mean before blurting out such ridiculous cascades of over-hype.
