"But you knew there would be a level cap"

No, I didn’t know there would be a level cap. Folks are telling me that I should have bought the LE because I knew about the cap, but that’s not true. It said, “early access to specializations”. It didn’t say anything about being stuck at level 70 while everyone else got to level to 130, did it?

No but at the same time I don’t think 343 expected everyone to level up so fast.

how could they not expect people to level up so fast with so much double xp available? and I’m not going to spend money I don’t have to get something that everyone should have access to in the first place!!!

They added in a daily exp gain cap for a reason. So im very sure 343i knew people would level this fast. They even raised the cap last week.

So saying 343i didnt expect people to level up so fast is false.

what’s even funnier is that there were literally only so many copies of the LE and they sold out months before the game released.

i went to four local stores to reserve a copy of the LE 3-4 days before the release and every place just laughed at me. gamestop already had a 100 person list of people who wanted one in case soeone didn’t pick theirs up.

of all the broken and wrong things with this game, this is the only one that really pisses me off. you would think by now game developers could find a way to keep people from boosting and cheating without having to punish your devoted fanbase.

then part of me thinks they did it to make the multiplayer ranking seem longer than it is.

I think they knew very well how fast people would rank up.

  1. They built the level up formulas and xp’s needed for each level. Halo 4 Level Ranking

  2. They decided how much xp you get for winning a game, for completing a game, and for your “work” in the game. Same thing goes for Spartan Ops.

This is how long it should take to rank up %100 without even considering spartan ops, weapon challenges, daily challenges or double XP.

Lets say you win a game of slayer, you usually earn about 2800xp, games take between 6 and 10 minutes usually.

To reach level 50 (at 884,480 XP) you need about 315 games. Those games should take about 40 hours.

To finish a specialization it takes 327k XP, that’s 116 games which should take about 15 hours, all 8 specialization’s together totals 120 hours.

So ANYONE not considering campaign, war games or spartan ops challenges, commendations, OR double XP should be level 130 with 160 hours of gameplay, or about 6.5 days.

There is no way you can say that they didn’t know how long it would take to reach max rank.

exactly. and my guess is that once MS got wind, they forced 343 to put in the level cap (MS also controls what was given out with the LE copies so they figured they would sell early access and only print a handful of LE copies)

not to mention all the people who didn’t follow halo 4 closely before release, so sketchy making people pay 100$ dollars for the full leveling experience, it kind of crosses the line as far as ethics go in my book

i hit 70 like a week ago. they will release the specs and then in a month everyone will hit 130 and the QQs will come back. what then tho?..

maybe a month after u see NEW SPEC DLC 500 MP!!

haha making you pay every month or 2 for 10 more levels online i see it now

I think the xp cap was put in place to try to make a happy medium between people who play a modest amount and people who play a lot. The levels had to feel rewarding to someone playing a few hours a week or even month, but to make this same xperience system work for people who play a heavy amount they had to restrict them. It was put in to give the progression system more longevity for the kind of people that post on these forums.

I don’t understand what the big deal is anyway? If people want to AFK let them, if they want to play 24/7 let them, who cares. The game will not mean anything in a couple of years anyway. I honestly don’t get the EXP cap. And I am still a level 38, I’m not even a hardcore player.

You don’t see how idling in a game ruins it for everyone else on your team?

Pretty sure they told you it was 1-50 ranking. And that each specialization was 10 levels.

It’s very simple, there is no cap. You got all the XP required to level up to 50, so you’re done. Specializations are entirely separate, and are finished at 10. No cap, that’s the actual end.

No matter if you have 2, or 8, you can only rank up 10 levels from each. If you don’t pick another one, you don’t get XP. Not because you’re stopped. Because there is nothing you are ranking up in, because you didn’t choose another one to start.

Only ever picked 1? You’re ‘capped’ at 60. Pick only 3? You’ll be ‘capped’ at 80. See why ‘capped’ just doesn’t make sense? It’s not like Reach where you were supposed to keep getting credits, but they ‘capped’ you for a while before letting you continue, in h4 you are not stopped until you hit the max rank for that specialization, which is the END.

You’re not being stopped, you’re actually finishing what you selected by your own choice. If you don’t have any more to choose, that’s an entirely different issue, and has nothing to do with XP ‘capping’, even if you falsely perceive it to be so.
