just curious am I the only one wondering why we’re getting a dmr with no scope?
Isn’t it meant to be a mid to long range weapon how’s that gonna work?
Any thoughts?
The scope was removed with the emphasis of a close to mid-range support weapon. It’ll be interesting to see how little or big it’ll change the ranked sandbox.
It’s not the DMR specifically, apparently it only looks like it (without a scope). This new weapon is called the “Bandit Rifle”.
But let’s be honest though… it’s a knock-off DMR lol the name change was probably to give 343 an easy excuse for the backlash they will most likely receive when players finally pick up the “DMR looking weapon” and ask why it doesn’t perform like a DMR.
It’s also a cheap, easy way to feed your player base some “fresh new” content. It seems the best stuff coming to Halo Infinite will be old stuff that already came to the Halo games before Infinite… that is how lackluster Infinite is…
To 343,
Just give me the DMR. I was excited to hear about this gun until I found out it had no scope. It was looking so good up until that reveal.
It being scopeless is actually going to be a HUGE advantage. Smart-link doesn’t unzoom when you take damage. Sure the DMR won’t zoom in 3x like it normally does, it will only be 1.4x. But you will NEVER descope, therefore never losing your increased AA range, or having your aim thrown off when zoomed in.
The Bandit is gonna clap so hard because of this decision. It might lose some value over the BR in BTB, but it will basically hard counter all the non-power mid-long range options on every single 4v4 map. Providing a true jack-of-all-trades rifle where the BR and Commando have failed in this game. Scopes are actually awful in Infinite because of how hard the Sidekick and AR slap across long 4v4 sightlines.
Because 343 only want one precision weapon in the game with the Battle Rifle.
People complained about there being an excessive number of weapons (4
) that did essentially the same thing and the feeling was that you should make each weapon unique in how it plays. That as an Arena shooter it was important that each gun have a unique play style. People seem to forget that in Halo 5 they didn’t touch unique mechanic guns when they were introduced like the sentinel beam. It’s almost as if the precision weapons are just all round better and people don’t use it even if you put it in front of them.
In practice they make almost every gun junk apart from the BR and Assault Rifle. Lots of strange gimmick mechanics that just make the guns hard to use when you have two point and click weapons.
So the scope went and the Designated Marksmen Rifle
is now being altered to drag it out of the Battle Rifles role.
Given how they made the Commando and Stalker Rifle junk compared to the BR I am not sure people will like the change.
Also, from the a campaign perspective the DMR makes sense. It’s another weapon for your marine NPC to use. A heavier but rarer BR in the sandbox for taking health off bosses. As well as just simple Reach nostalgia which represents a missed opportunity with no appreciable benefit. Less is not more.
Plus you got to consider that somebody has been paid to reinvent the wheel and been allowed to spend time doing this.
Not to mention that dropping what should be a base gun a year after release….
THE BOTTOM LINE IS IT’S NOT A DMR! IT’S A WANNA BE DMR!!!
Peace!

343 probably doesn’t want to outshine the Battle Rifle, their sole purpose, the key for ranked, the spotlight weapon they poured so much time into balancing with heavy controller AA for HCS. Bringing the REAL DMR into Infinite, that could be the better long-range weapon.
There’s surprisingly a lot of people that prefer the DMR over the BR, suggesting it’s even more of a skill weapon than the BR, since the BR has 3 chances to do damage per burst. I’d rather have the real DMR over the Stalker Rifle any day.
343 is obsessed with competitive balance. The Bandit Rifle being short to mid will compete with Commando instead of BR. Less work for 343. Nobody really cares about the Commando.
It should honestly just be the commando rework
Which is a terrible way to think about it. Pro Play and Esports is a very small part of the game at the end of the day. That’s fine if it doesn’t mean less guns in campaign and Banished/Sentinels using the wrong guns. But it does harm other aspects of the game.
I just don’t get it. Look at CoD. I am not super into it. But a huge part of Warzone and the Community is based around all the weapons and weapon customisation. People don’t really care that “omg this is the tenth assault rifle”. They do make ascetic choices about picking an M16 or an AK47. Why should Halo be of the view that only the assault rifle, only the battle rifle in that very general category. Perhaps people do pick a DMR or a Covenant Carbine because rule of cool. Perhaps you enjoy the Light Rifle because it has a disintegration. It’s the casual dismissal of that in the name of appeasing chess players.
It’s a very steep price just to say that you have a balanced and varied weapon pool; which they don’t.
They should remove the Commando’s Zoom too. It sucks.
The only way they can succeed is if they continue to steal from the good Halo’s
Bringing back the DMR to begin with is just baffling and just a microcosm of the bad sandbox decisions in the game.
The DMR is a questionable choice to begin with and a close range dedicated version is even more questionable. They talked a good game before launch about creating unique niches and reducing redundancy, but in practice its business as usual, what new ground is the DMR supposed to cover that isn’t already covered by the Sidekick or Mangler?
The fact that we will have yet another precision weapon with heavy bloom and the lack of dull descope only makes the current sandbox situation worse.
The name change is weak, the scope being gone would make a cool variant, but plz just bring back the OG DMR.
How can developers champion player choice and expression then cut fan favorites because they are “redundant.”
Because they want this game to die. Ever wondered why everything is just slightly off all the time? A DMR that can only be hipfired. The Pit getting presented as a “world premire” looking nothing like The Pit. The Disruptor having a slow rate of fire, but fires full auto, even though it is not needed. The Sidekick firing insanely fast, yet is not full auto. The Commando being full auto, but it performs better when tapping the trigger. NOTHING in this game makes 100% sense.
My Spartan right here was on one.
The game definitely feels like it’s right there on the cusp of feeling 100%, but then again it’s a new Halo game with new machanics.
