Despite the story of this old trailer, you can see the mix of the Halo 5 spartans and Arbiter with the Halo 2 Elite armor. Even weapons, the Halo 2 BR and the Covenant plasma rifle. Im just stating this because I believe the 343i style isn’t that bad and could mix well with the old design. Not only Master chief, but there is also no point to redesign anything beyond Halo 4 just to look “classic”. So if we do see creations beyond Halo 3, I hope im right and it does mix well~~

Yes of Corse Spartan is a great Mix of Halo 3/ Halo Wars 2 art style and I like it soo much especially the Master Chief armor
Honestlly the campaign spartan armor was pretty solid. Its just the MP spartan armor where things got crazy with 343’s designs.
I think the problem is that 343i changed the art style just for the sake of doing so. Elites didn’t need to become hulking Brute stand-ins. Grunts didn’t need to have their masks removed. Spartan armor did not need to have pieces that look like they came from a cartoon. The Plasma Rifle looked great, but was replaced by a generic Storm Rifle in an attempt to make it more appealing to non-Halo fans.
If you notice, no one really seems to take issue with the design of the Railgun, Saw, Phaeton, and Plasma Caster, to name a few. These are all 343i originals and look pretty sweet. To me, 343i is righting a wrong by making weapons and character models look like they used to, but by using their own deep pool of talent to modernize everything. The classic look is almost universally appreciated, especially Chief’s new armor. Thus far, it’s my favorite iteration from the whole series. 343i is proud of it and it was received very well, so I hope they continue down the same path for the art style. So, yes, a mix of sorts will work very well.
As for the trailer, those are redesigns. They look nothing like the Elites from H4 and what ultimately became H5’s Elites. The trailer is made specifically for Halo 2: Anniversary, so they had to cater the art style to that game to not be jarring for players. 343i has a lot of talent, but I believe there was a lack of good direction. Constraints are often what bring about the coolest things. Change for the sake of change, revolution instead of evolution, etc., all screwed up the visual appeal. Respecting the past and using it as a foundation is important and 343i chose to ignore that in the past. Assuming the plasticky look gets fixed, Halo Infinite will at the very least look incredible.

Lol It seems to me like basically when 343 designs things like Bungie (i.e. all of Halo 2 Anniversary, or what Infinite is looking like,) people like it. When they do their own thing (the armors in Halo 5,) everyone thinks it sucks.
Although I can’t say I really liked the new arbiters armor in that cutscene, I can respect their take on halo because just about everything was done with respect in mind. The elite models themselves looked excellent. Not too brutish like reach/4/5, but fit and sleek like in the original trilogy. All the weapons look great too. It baffles me as to why that BR isn’t in halo 5 in place of the dinky one we got. And even though I strongly dislike much of the new spartan armor, it was interesting to see them standing there menacingly across the elites. That whole cutscene was done so well, if only we got the game they advertised lol
I think everything except weapons are okay as a blend. The weapons we saw in the gameplay demo looked they were ripped out of Destiny and CoD.

Honestly this just comes down to the expression of geometry and silhouettes. The Phaeton, Saw and Railgun especially have very strong silhouettes as well as clean lines and shapes that help push forward the idea of the gun, not just how it looks aesthetically. I can’t quite remember where, but there was a story from Bungie about how it didnt really matter what the assault rifle looked like, as long as you recognized that it was the assault rifle.
The biggest problem with many of 343’s designs (btw many of Halo 5’s multiplayer armor designs were out of house designs for anyone who was wondering) was that they have a hell of a lot of polygons. A popular talking point of many people who enjoy some of 343’s armor designs is the amount of detail, but this isn’t something exclusive to 343’s work on Halo. Bungie crammed as much detail as possible into their designs, between forerunner architecture, covenant interiors, and of course, armor. But the overall geometry and silhouette were simple. When the general shape of something get’s complicated, it just turns into noise and it doesn’t read like any general shape.
I’m really liking Halo Infinite’s design so far, the lines are clean, the silhouettes are simple, and the fine details are still very clear. I’m excited to see the final product, and I think it is visually shaping up to be a great return to form
I’ve been a fan of Halo since 2004 and I’ll be honest, I’ve enjoyed both art styles over the years. They seem to mix quite well in Halo Infinite so far and I can’t wait to see how it looks in the full game. Only thing I didn’t like was the scorpion tanks in Halo 5 since it was shaped less like a scorpion and more like a traditional bulky tank which was a major turn off for me, “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.”

Its just the in game model that looks terrible. The cutscenes look much better like this. It looks like real steel instead of cardboard… well some cutscenes do~
