I’m not sure why people are so easily pleased. Bungies trailers for Halo 3 and Reach were heart felt demonstrations of the miserable situation humanity was in during the conflict with the Covenant. It’s like whoever designed the trailers knew about the horrors of war and the desperation humanity must feel in that situation. Deliver hope told an entire story without saying a single word. ODST trailer told an entire story without saying a word. You could see the soldier going through grief, misery and then the absolute and total fear that gripped him during the fight with the brutes. Spartan training was and should be an absolutely terrifying and miserable affair. It takes a lot of sacrifice to create the ultimate soldier. But 343’s trailer is like… hey guys were spartans and we represent hope… yayyyy. When in reality, the process of becoming a spartan would have an almost religious and terrible significance to it. I mean, your predecessors were literally abused and murdered children, and the process you have to go through to become this machine of war must be equally grueling within the confines of the law. Spartans aren’t normal, they aren’t human, they are a breed of soldier that should be unrecognizable from your traditional rank and file. They are above that.
I mean, I understand that 343 is targeting teenagers/pre-teens with their marketing, and it’s not really just a 343 thing. Corporate gaming/media just seems to think that they can’t make anything with any real substance and grit to it otherwise it will zoom over peoples heads.
I do wish there was some gore, but laureate seemed very scared but brave. He facial expressions, and her covering when the banshee flew overhead was a good display. Granted there wasn’t much violence. But it showed the courage and bravery of Spartans and how it inspired laureate to become one (which was the point of the trailer). I’d say it told its message well.
I do wish for more desperate times for humanity, the E3 campaign trailer did a good job with it. It was chief and the pilot, and chief was drifting thru the remains of a battle/wreckage. It’s not suicide bomb level, but still tells a good story.
infinite isn’t going for the gruesome war because it’s over. They’re gleaning towards hope, which they are doing very well. Every time I see a new trailer, it thrills me and they are impactful in their own way.
instead of trying to find your meaning, I suggest looking at the story and it’s intended meaning. Bungie made their meaning clear with the tragedies of war. 343i isn’t on that focus, and their trailers reflect that as well.
It’s weird when people talk about Bungie and 343i in comparison. Bungie has screwed up drastically on Destiny 2 and finally is fixing it. Both trailers have a completely different goal and the content displayed indicates that.

This right here.
Frankly if they took the no hope gruesome approach itd start to get old really fast. The big war ended in halo 3
The whole point of the story was to show how laureate was fearful and scared but brave, she never gave up hope and when the Spartans protected her from the brutes, that inspired her to become a spartan. Comparing 343i to bungie is stupid and pathetic, at this point.
It was alright… But I also didn’t get the chills of past trailers… Don’t get me wrong the animation and work put in was great but it was more the the tone and execution of it. Some of the sounds seemed to muffled and the Spartans and brutes all seemed sluggish and she had a kind of weird stiff leg walk/run… but what do I know or really care… It was still pretty cool and I’m just excited to play this thing
Yeah 343 has had some issues… but dude it sounds like you just want to find fault in everything they do. I’ve been playing since CE and personally liked the trailer. The spartan nod at the girl was powerful without saying a word.

Its always funny when people bring up Bungie to try and justify their bashing of 343.
Bungie was making Halo games over a decade ago, back when the gaming landscape was very different than today.
But if you take a look at what dear old Bungie has been getting up to in the last decade, they’ve released games considered incomplete, with features added post-launch, and a MTX Store ready to bleed weak-willed fans dry.
Basically everything they accuse 343 of doing to Halo.
In regards to the trailers though, Infinite is meant to the the beginning of a new story/era in the universe.
Halo 3 was the long awaited finishing of the fight, and Reach was already known for getting absolutely REKT, so trailers for them are going to have a very different tone than Infinite. And, I’d personally put the Halo Xbox One / Poncho Chief trailer up there with Halo 3’s Teaser, in terms of dramatic reveal and feels.

It is really bizarre. People forget how many glitches Halo 2 had and how much content got cut as well. Halo Infinite is all about hope and the drive of humanity IMO. The trailer signified hope pretty well and what it means to humanity.

And most of Halo 2’s cut story was modified and became the first half of Halo 3. But nobody cried about being sold cut content back then.
Then Reach rolled up with Sprint and Armour Lock, and made such a mess with the established lore, that 343 had to retroactively re-retcon some of its more notable inconsistencies via blog post.
No developer is perfect.
A couple of things I noticed in the MP Trailer; the highway they fight on and the raised barricades are strait out of ODST, the drop pods are a spitting image of Halo 2’s, even the legacy UNSC logo makes a return. Also, I could be reaching here, but I’d also bet that Agryna’s bumble bee necklace and suite decal are a reference to I Love Bees, probably added by Joe Staten after he got on board.

I know we give Joe Staten a huge amount of credit with Halo however I would argue it isn’t enough. I can’t wait for some new Campaign content so it has more of his imprint on it. The only issue I have is if it is on Earth then the timeline feels off and the armor I believe wasn’t even around yet.

The big difference with the last batch of Spartans is that they already were veteran soldiers before getting augmented and outfitted. Spartans in this timeline are a rare elite branch of the UNSC and not the child supersoldiers from gen 1-3.
This is also what the trailer shows; soldiers getting training to become Spartans.
Although I must admit that I also miss the army-like intensity of the academy scene. Taking away the video it could also just have been a kindergarten teacher asking everyone what they brought for show and tell and finally asking who wants ice cream (sorry for that association lol).

Getting Joe back was basically Star Wars getting its George Lucas back. I hope in years down the line, we get to find out what pre-Statan Infinite looked like, and what influence he had in changing it.
Yeah, the MP trailer does have a few inconsistencies, like the Spartan armour.
But if you look at the amount of detail put into other areas, such as the Halo 2 drop pods, or the ODST highway and raising barricades, its clear that the armour isn’t just a mistake nobody spotted.
Given the Helmet (keystone?) that they are wearing is basically the face of Infinite’s Multiplayer Marketing, I’d wager that they specifically chose to use those armours, to remain consistent for the masses.
Sure, all of us lore nerds (myself included) would have loved to see era specific armours and such, but they (marketing team) might have though it a bit confusing to general audiences. Plus it would have been more work to model the old armours, that would really only be seen for about 10 seconds of screen time.

Honestly I hope they loosely follow lore and not take it too seriously in MP. Why? Because Halo has been held back by purism. We of course want Arena to stay consistent however I want them to get wacky and creative with some of the modes.

I had mixed feelings about how the lore worked in MP. On the face of it, I liked the idea.
But when you start looking closely, its starts to unravel. To me at least, the advanced tech used to run the simulations seems little beyond the UNSC’s reach. For instance, if they can send simulated sensory information through the neural network, and have holograms working in tandem with pneumatic risers; why do we not see evidence of such tech used elsewhere? It also bring into question things like, being yeeted across the map by an explosion, or mowed down by a chopper. How much of these incidents are real? Are the Chopper’s blades holographic, or is 90% of vehicle holographic?
I HAVE ALL THE QUESTIONS! Haha.

I do think there is a fine line of going too far with some mode. A lot of things in Halo already are kind of broke already in terms of “realism” like you refer too. I just want creativity in the MP and canon not to hold that back. This is why I like the idea of Fractures.
