"bungie" halo fans aren't the only fans of halo.

> “Bungie” fans supported the franchise and got it to where it is now. They’re owed. You really don’t have the right to call out people for being upset with the direction of a franchise after they provided the lifeblood that allowed it to grow. Make no mistake, Halo was at it’s peak in player-base, notoriety, and industry value during the “Bungie” days. Ever since Halo 4, it’s an objective fact that the series has had multiple serious ups and downs that have damaged it’s reputation and player-base.

I never called out bungie fans. All I said is that people should respect others opinions and not harass or insult others for liking stuff they don’t like.

We’re not Bungie fans. We didn’t like Reach. We’re Halo fans. We were here before you.

Good point, you guys are halo fans, but so is everyone else who came after. Stop using the excuse of “were here earlier” to decide who a halo fan is.

I’m a Bungie fan and disagreed with a LOT of stuff that 343i did to halo, but I am all in for infinite. I wasn’t even aware that people were complaining.

It’s 343’s own fault they have now divided the community into basically two groups of people, there is nothing they can do that will please both of them at the same time.

The issue with the 343 games is that they are chasing trends instead of having a solid vision rooted in what the Bungie games did well. I do not want a repeat of the original 3 games, but rather their spiritual successor. Look at how much love the post-2016 Doom franchise has gotten. The developers knew the core of the old games and updated elements to modern standards to invoke those same feelings. 343 has done the exact opposite and chased after industry trends ignoring what made the Bungie games great. Halo Infinite is doing no such thing and appears to make the mistakes of all of the past games made by 343. Abandonment of plot threads from the previous game, overly plastic aesthetic, trying to capture trends from other successful games of its era, sprint, the same somewhat floaty gunplay, and more.

I just wanted to say that sure, you may not like 343i and their games and that’s perfectly fine. But halo isn’t just a single fanbase made up of bungie fans. Its been 13 years since the last “good” bungie halo game (halo 3). 13 years. In that time, halo has obviously gathered a lot of new fans who might just enjoy or love their games. And maybe even prefer them to bungie’s halo.
> > >
> > > Now what does this mean exactly? 343i now have to cater to multiple fanbases. The bungie ones, and their own. This isn’t as simple as it sounds. They can’t make a halo 3 sequel without alienating the new fanbase and obviously they can’t make infinite without alienating the old bungie fans.
> > >
> > > Put simply, you guys aren’t the only fans of halo. There are many more, and some who actually liked what they saw today. Don’t go out harassing them for liking 343i’s new game and telling them what they like isn’t halo and they’re stupid to think it is.

> No irony here. Just saying everyone has their own opinions and telling someone they’re stupid for liking this halo cause it isnt true halo is in fact the entire point im making.

OK bud.

You are saying it is okay to alienate the original fan base. Halo 3 sold more than fifteen million copies. That is the true Halo gameplay, and one that honored the amazing games (CE and H2) that came before. Not the divisive sprint mechanics established in Reach and carried through to Infinite.

You guys call this monstrosity a Bungie like Halo game, wth is wrong with you people, this is is nothing like Bungies Halo. Bungie fans have been alienated for the past 8 years and when you guys see something even slightly different from 343s usual style you cry to alienate more Bungie fans. You guys are toxic af.

“Bungie” Halo fans are the only ones who’s opinions matter, though.

and why is that? You’re basically gatekeeping saying your opinion is better than everyone else’s. Do you not see the issue with your statement?

I don’t think you’re not a Halo fan. I just think you’d have a different opinion if you had more experience with the series, though there are a few older players who don’t mind mechanics like sprint.

I wholeheartedly agree with you there. And I understand how you guys feel, really I do. I wanted infinite to be more of classic halo so you guys would love it, but it isnt (although I still like it). Its just sad when newer fans are ignored by the fanbase.

No one is saying that we are “the only Halo fans”. You wouldn’t like it if the best franchise of your childhood went to an extreme and completely disregarded everything you once knew about Halo.

There needs to be a happy medium with Halo, and the progression of Halo.

I actually didn’t care for many of the serious changes to Halo starting with Halo 2 and I think Bungie made some bizarre, bizarre, choices when it came to weapon sandbox, level design (mostly in the case of Halo 2) and narrative presentation.

That said, I think it was pretty clear that this game had been being teased, spoken about, and even borderline advertised as a spiritual reboot to take the game back to those days. For better or for worse, anticipation has been building around that semi-promise and there wasn’t much communication to indicate otherwise. So for some folx to be let down by this demo showing some stark deviations–even when it comes to art style (seriously, go look at some comparisons floating around out there of Reach or 3 vs this Infinite demo. This ain’t a classic art style. Perhaps inspired by a more classic art style? But not in line with it).

So, while I do think that the Bungie obsession is somewhat cultish at times, often greatly exaggerated beyond what the reality was (ya know, like when some fans talk about the purity of Bungie’s vision or approach but then still emphasize the importance of canon as per the novels–the things Bungie wanted to actively stop from ever happening in the first place…) I can’t blame people for being a little, I dunno, shellshocked?, by this first look–especially because on top of the changes, there’s some bizarre lack of polish and detail for a AAA reveal on what is going to be “the most powerful console yada yada yada.” Just the lighting, the texture pop-in, the lack of sophistication in geometry on both weapons and vehicles like the Phantom.

> >
> > They didn’t sell you guys down. This is exactly the point I’m making. Calling people who enjoy 343i’s games “Mainstream younger gamers” is quite insulting. You’re basically saying only the classic fans are the true “halo fans”. aka gatekeeping.

> What happens exactly, if you started with CE the week it came out… But ALSO liked Halo 5 and was excited by what you saw in the trailer? Because I enjoyed how Halo 5 played (Barring Charge) and I grew up on Halo CE/2/3, heck I saved up on a $5 ~ $7 a week allowance just so I could get the limited edition of Halo 2. Still got it on my shelf in my room behind me even, along with 3’s. But I’m not in an outrage over what I saw in this trailer at all or even disappointed. …Well okay, I’m disappointed Blue Team’s not there, but other than that I’m actually excited to see what comes next.

I am so with you on this - I’ve been playing these games since I was a kid with CE and have enjoyed each step. If I want a classic experience I’ll dip into the old games, if I want the newer mechanics then I can still jump into 4 or 5… Quite regularly play through the series from the start to present as well. And I’m very excited for Infinite! Sure some textures were a bit poor, and I am disappointed not to see Blue Team (yet?) and more of the state of the rest of the galaxy (might come, might just be entirely based on this ring) - but I’m still looking forward to finding out and seeing what comes next!<!–/data/user/0/com.samsung.android.app.notes/files/clipdata/clipdata_200724_080852_763.sdoc–>

Imagine being so selfish as an adult that you don’t want anyone else to enjoy the same franchise you did.

You’re right, Bungie fans aren’t the only Halo fans.

But we’re the only ones that matter…
