Bumper Jumper in halo 4

To all you bumper jumpers out there: You might have heard the disturbing news that because there are going to be 2 armor abilitys put to use at once, 343 has considered changing the bumper jumper layout for halo 4. I heared that they were going to switch the armor ability button (X) with the Grenade trigger (RT). I personally think this is a really terrible idea, and i don’t see it working. To stop this i have a suggestion: Activate the 2nd armor ability by the bressing of the un used thumb stick. (or just make the controller layout cusomizable)

If you to find this topic worrying please post a response or ideas and try to get 343’s attention!
Thx,

All Controller Layouts are subject to change.

I posted a thread yesterday that touched on this same topic. I’ll just paste some of what I said in that thread so I wont have to retype the whole thing.

First here are the Halo 4 Button Layouts from the E3 Version of the game.

I use Bumper Jumper my self so I wasn’t ecstatic finding this out my self either but hopefully it changes. I speculated on why they chose that format and a possible solution:
"The layout that seemed so peculiar to me was Bumper Jumper. Movement and crouching are on the same analog stick which is what we’ve all been used to since Halo CE thus putting sprint as a face button. I have no problem with that either. What caught my eye was that the actual AA button was left trigger and grenade throw was moved to (X). I try not to nitpick over every little detail however I don’t see the benefit in that. It just makes it harder to aim your grenade tosses (unless you claw) especially the “swipe sticky” toss that everyone has done on an opponent at one time or another such as last second stick when you’re about to lose a melee battle. I personally have not played the game so perhaps there is something that I am not seeing. Maybe you have to hold the AA button down for the duration of some abilities such as Promethean Vision (using it similarly to Reach Armor Lock)instead of just pressing the AA button to turn it on and off?

I personally see it as more important to aim your grenades correctly which will actually get you the kill rather than the aiming an AA which will only aid you. I’m just going off of speculation on how that particular AA works and with that said I believe a simple solution would be to make Promethean Vision work like Reach Sprint and not like Reach Armor Lock. Basically you simply press the AA button to turn the ability on and press it again to turn it back off. Then you can just hit X to turn the ability on, look around and then hit X to turn it off. Thus allowing grenade to be Left Trigger as it should be.
Hoping someone could clarify."

As long as its effective I don’t care. Reachs bumper jumper wasn’t great because you couldn’t aim while jet packing or sprinting (I personally cannot play claw style).

I don’t see as big a problem with grenades on X. You just aim where you want to throw and throw. You don’t really need to aim WHILE pulling the LT

Good.

Bumper Jumper should be changed to have:

  1. X should be your AA or sprint

  2. A should be your AA or sprint

  3. LT should be your grenade

  4. The D-pad should control your choice of grenades.

That is the best way to have Bumper Jumper work for H4.

I really hope they do this…they said the layouts may change but they were crazy enough to put grenades on x originally so very possible it won’t change which is scary!

And to the other guy…it is very common for me to have to look up quickly, chuck a grenade and then look back down to keep firing (unless you’re throwing a grenade right in front of you)…or look quickly to the side and bounce a nade off the wall and then look back and continue fleeing. I can’t imagine using x for nading…

Not entirely true. The only AA that had an issue with Bumper Jumper was Jet Pack. It didn’t bother me when playing Reach though. I’d just have a teammate use Jet Pack.

Sprint worked fine with Bumper Jumper though. You didn’t have to hold X while sprinting just had to press it once to activate sprint but then you could look where you were going. To stop sprinting you could hit X again or simple hit back on the left analog

I also disagree with the “you don’t need to aim a grenade while throwing it” comment as well. There were plenty of times where it came in hand.

Common Example: When someone tries to assassinate you but only melees your side. You turn while throwing the sticky grenade to stick them before they can melee you again.

That scenario probably won’t work with the new configuration. Which means a lot less “Kill From the Grave” medals for me

Did i say thumbstick?! Oops i meant d-pad. A is also a good idea though. Or just have 2 styles of bumper jumper (the other one could be called Jumpy or Bouncy or something like that) one with our suggested settings, and one 343 style.
