Built-in armor abilities?

Has it occurred to anyone that Spartans may have built-in armor abilities on their suit or are able to be equipped with multiple AA’s at once?

In the Halo 4 E3 2011 trailer, we see Master Chief use some kind of pack to escape the badly damaged Forward Unto Dawn. It functions like a Thruster Pack but has the sound of a Jet Pack.

During Shutdown, a mission in Halo 4’s campaign, the Master Chief uses a Thruster Pack in mid-air to help him board a Lich.

This brings up some major questions: do Spartans have built-in AA’s? If so, how many are they able to support? What other AA’s could Spartans have built into their suit?

Halo Legends show that they have ammunition stored in their leg armor

Halo 4 showed some kind of thruster pack. probably for space only.

I don’t know of any more that that

All of the 2nd gen and late 1st gen Mjolnir suits have built in thruster packs. Chief has had those since halo 2, he just never used them until now.

Source?

Just look at his armor, plus Bungie had stated the scene in Halo 2 where Chief guides the Covenant bomb to a cruiser was supposed to be a mission with John guiding the bomb with his thrusters.

All Mk. VI armor has thrusters as it is obvious and shown in the prologue of Halo 4

Curious, I can’t seem to find an official source anymore, but look at their backs
Mk.5
Mk.6(halo 3)
Mk.6(halo 4)
and lets not forget the chief has been wearing the same Mk.6 (albeit now appearance retconed)suit since halo 2, if their here now that means canonically speaking they’ve always been there.

Thank you

I’m now just curious as to know what other built-in features MJOLNIR GEN2 may have.

Um… no… Mark VI’s appearance was not ret conned. John’s one was changed by Cortana.

I don remember bungie saying that.

John does have a thruster pack on the back of his reactor things. whether bas become standard is unknown. Mark V lacked built in thruster pack.

Built in sprint. Allows armour to bypass set limits to give user higher speed.

VISR mode if you count that as one.

If it isn’t a retcon then 1) Why didn’t she fix the dent, and 2) How did she change it, Mk.6 doesn’t possess nanotech, and it seems unlikely that a frigate like the FUD(also appearance retconed) has the capacity to produce mjolnir armor. She does mention changing the suits firmware but to take that to mean she changed your armor is a pretty liberal use of the word.

> Mk.6 doesn’t possess nanotech

Retcon is such a fancy word, isn’t it?

Now, either Cortana was being sentimental or it’s a new but strangely similar that it borders on creepy gash that he got on the fall to Requiem, since we never really see him completely at the start of the game (I think).

The variant John wears is based on a version of the Mark IV. Which explains why the other SPARTANs in the prologue were wearing it and yes, shield technology was being tested by 2531 (so much for gameplay).

Also, if the original Mark VI was retconned out of existence, then it shouldn’t exist in multiplayer, but it does.

Yeah, I don’t buy it. I saw nothing wrong with the old design and if nanotech was used to change it for whatever reason, then why not fix that gash on the chestplate?

SPARTAN IIs were required to fight in zero gravity. For this reason the thruster pack was built in to MJOLNIR armor starting with late first generation. For reasons not made clear, Master Chief’s thruster pack was not functional throughout the events of Halo 2 and 3. This may have had something to do with reducing expectations for multiplayer, since to date no zero gravity matches have been produced for our gaming pleasure (something that I have been advocating since the release of Halo 3, especially after reading in one of the books that zero gravity combat was part of Marine training).

I believe we got thruster pack in 4 to scratch the Evade itch only Elites had in Reach. Thruster pack makes little sense for a SPARTAN wearing shielded armor who has the ability to sprint. It is a zero gravity device that is as integral to an armor system designed to work in any environment without any special input or lengthy conversion activity from the wearer.

Some day, some game developer will offer hand-to-hand zero gravity combat that will make thruster packs necessary. For regular combat they’re just a gimmick.

Buy it or not, that’s the way things are.

Either got it before waking up from the crash, since we don’t see it there, or Cortland left it for emotional reasons. Yes, some people, including me, like scars.

They are, attractive, to some.

dude, read this link and stop rationalizing

> Retcon is such a fancy word, isn’t it?

> In an interview with Game Informer, Frank O’Connor offhandedly mentioned that Cortana used nanomachines stored aboard the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn to both repair and upgrade the suit.[26] However, in the game, John’s suit still has the gash it has featured since Halo 3, calling into question why it was not repaired; Cortana states simply that she upgraded the suit’s firmware, though neither character addresses any differences in the hardware.[27] Nonetheless, Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide explicitly states that the armor itself was redesigned by Cortana to resemble an earlier line of MJOLNIR Mark IV which is depicted in Halo 4’s Prologue, much like the mainline Mark VI.[28] All other interviews with 343 Industries staff indicate that, (from a production standpoint), the design change is merely an aesthetic overhaul.

now lets get back on topic.

What if I told you, that Chief’s Cortanafied Mark VI is based off a Mark IV variant that sported both prototype energy shields and a built in thruster pack.

Click the link again. Production wise, aesthetical change, canon wise, modified armour.

Colonel Sith Venator! I advanced to Sergeant and created the promethean ranks template! Yay.

I can’t think of anymore armour abilities other than those…

Goooooooood all is going as according to plan.

Which is based off of what Frank O’Connor said. Meanwhile…

That looks like a “CHANGED THE ARMOR FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE FOR THE ‘343I’S STAMP ON HALO’” if you ask me.

It was changed for the sake of change, they just threw in a lore explanation.

The essential visual guide also backs up Franky’s interview.

Same reason why Jackals are jackals from a different continent. Then again, just about anything different in any of the halo games could be summed up as “it changed because they wanted to change it”.

The chief’s armor in h3 looked damaged because bungie wanted it to look damage. It didn’t take this specific damage during h2, and it doesn’t look particularly like damage from the fall.
