Creating this thread to report what I believe to be either a rendering error or design oversight on the magnum model within Halo: Anniversary’s updated visuals.
The issue itself seems to have generally gone unnoticed, which could likely be attributed to the fact that it’s only visible during the weapon’s draw animation.
What I am referring to is that when the magnum is drawn, an animation plays in which the player pulls back the slide in order to check for a round in the chamber of the magnum and to see if the magazine is empty, a common practice for firearms with a similar mechanism. That being said, the problem is that there is no round in the chamber, in fact there is no chamber whatsoever nor a magazine well or any ammunition (apologies to anyone more familiar with the terminology, my experience with firearms is casual at best) within the firearm itself. I know it tends to be a common practice to not model parts of an object that don’t usually get shown and were it the case I’d not even be making this thread however the issue is that the draw animation places this visual issue front and center, right in the player’s face, and once it’s been seen it simply cannot be unseen. I’ve also included some visual references for the sake of clarity.
(Halo CE: Anniversary, new visuals setting, assumed to be the MCC version but cannot be confirmed as it was a screenshot from a youtube video, my 360’s shot atm so it’s the best I can do)
(Halo Combat Evolved: Custom Edition, PC, Vanilla map/models/animations/etc)
Edit:
I also think the issue may have been obscured by the lower resolution output the 360 had at the time, this may become a problem once Halo CE comes out on the MCC for PC and players start bumping resolutions well above the original intended size.
