Hi I have my Xbox One connected directly to a 7.1 capable amp and for the most part the game outputs 7.1 sound fine. However there is an issue with the pre-rendered cut scenes in Halo 4, the surround sound is only 5.1, which is fine…
However the problem being the surround sound is being output to the rear surrounds and not the side surrounds. This is an issue with a few games and apps on xbox one. When outputting a 5.1 soundtrack the sides are dead and the rears are active. It should be the other way round. The only way to correct this is to manually set the xbox to bitstream or uncompressed 5.1.
This is unpractical for the most part, having to test each Xbox One game and fiddling with the settings. It’s doubly annoying for Halo 4 as the rest of the game does play 7.1 no problems with correct speaker channel mapping. Having to manually set to 5.1 just for the cut scenes (pre-rendered, i.e. intro and ending, etc…).
Hope this issue gets addressed, personally I think it’s a problem with Xbox One itself. The firmware needs updating as there are several games that have this problem, and a “flagship” title has this issue too.
Thanks for reading…
Edit
Just noticed the same issue with the videos in the Halo Channel, Nightfall and Spartan Ops, the sound is incorrectly being output to the back rears instead of side rears if the Xbox is set to uncompressed 7.1, have to manually change settings to 5.1 to fix it.
