I own the Steam version. The game crashes if you try to start it with a controller connected. Works fine if you connect a controller after it starts. Any chance of a fix?
Probably won’t get fixed since the game is quite old and the company that made the game (Vanguard) is not working on Halo games anymore.

I figured as much, but the solution is probably only a line or two of code. Assuming the source code is still available. Failing that, a note on the store page, or in the readme, or the library page, or something, would clue in potential players.

You’re right. That’s really how it should be and games in general shouldn’t be released like they have been for the past decade. But, times have changed and I doubt anyone truly cares about the state of many games such as the mobile Spartan games. It’s a shame since they would have been perfect if not for a few highly bothersome bugs.

So, a follow-up. I figured out the problem, and it’s Steam. Disable Steam’s controller support (Library > Game > right click > Properties > Controller > disable Steam input). The game will start normally with a controller attached and still read your controller.
I’m putting this up on the off-chance it’ll help someone down the road.
