BUG: H2A Co-op Mission 11 (Quarantine Zone)

Hello,

My brother and I are playing Halo 2 Campaign on Legendary when we noticed a particular bug that prevents any completion or advancement. Upon dying (which should reset both of us to the last checkpoint), only the person who dies will be reset to the last checkpoint while the other player will continue in the previous universe. We could still see each other in the game, just watching the other Arbiter walk around killing enemies that are already dead in the other universe. If we reverted manually, it would revert both of us, but the next death would cause us to be separated in game universes once again. For some reason, the player that does not die will not be reset. This seems to be an issue specific to the level, as I have only ever seen people report this problem on Quarantine Zone. This does not seem to be as talked about as the matchmaking issues, but this is a serious problem that is preventing people from completing the level on co-op. A recent Reddit thread (listed below) can shed more light on the problem. Please help bring this to the attention of the developers. I could care less about the 2-3 minutes it takes to find a multiplayer game but I REALLY want to complete this level and move on. Thanks.

I’m having the same problem myself , it’s a pain in the -Yoink-. Are you still having this problem?

bump this thread so tht the developers see this its annoying not to be able to beat this level because of this

Fix this problem, -Yoink-!

FIX THIS PROBLEM FFS.

This problem with being split up into different game worlds with the other player being controlled by a dummy ai that runs in one direction has still not been fixed yet. 343 has known about this problem since November and they still haven’t fixed it. Stop being so lazy and fix this already 343, its been months already and you still haven’t fixed this yet.

Another update and this level still desync on me. It is -Yoink-. Its been nearly 6 months snd this issue remains. What the -Yoink- me and my girl have tried it sbout 10 times and it still does the same -Yoink-

My friend and i have this bug now on heroic and cant progress anyone know of a solution or quick fix just to get though the level

Nope no solution, the desynching problem cannot be resolved until 343 actually patches the bug. As you can see, we still waiting on a fix for this bug since November along with a permanent fix for the Regret bug. Only thing you can do is wait for 343 to get off their lazy butts and fix this or raise enough hell over this issue with enough people for 343 to actually have notice on this bug. Both are unlikely to occur since 343 or its personal haven’t came into the forums for a very long time and the only updates 343 seemed to care about is multiplayer matches.

Only solution for that mission to get around that bug is to play that specific mission on single player, then party up with your buddy on the next mission. Only decent solution to the bugs this collection has in regards to co-op campaign.

Quarantine Zone was one of the most buggy missions in Halo 2 and now… it’s even MORE buggier than before!

I experienced the de-sync bug in co-op yesterday, it happened as soon as I got to the gondola while my friend stayed outside the door in a scorpion. It de-synced us, and the AI kept falling off the edge of the gondola and restarting the checkpoint. But then somehow my friend got killed and he respawned right next to me at the back of the gondola. Not sure if we got lucky, but we beat the mission. Maybe a potential workaround? I’ve heard you have to stick really close together at the checkpoints (as soon as I rushed on, we got de-synced). Kinda wish we stayed on QZ though, because Gravemind is next :stuck_out_tongue:

Gravemind is a pain but my advice is for the first area, is take it slow. It makes that mission more manageable, and try and pick up the carbines as much as possible. Maybe your solution might be a potential workaround or maybe its just luck, hopefully we can replicate your success for it to truely work. Thank you for giving us this info, hopefully it works. Quarantine Zone has been the bane of me and my friends existences when playing co-op through Halo 2 because of that bug.

This issue is still happening by the way. Happened with me just a few hours ago.

Another user has reported that Microsoft’s core services were down when this bug affected them. Perhaps that information might prove useful?

Maybe but unlikely, this de-syncing problem has been around since November. It happens either in the beginning area when you try to get through the area with the wraiths or the in the open field area right before you reach the gondola to go the next area to the index. Players are split up into different game worlds with the other controlled by a dummy ai that gets itself killed by shooting randomly or running to its death off a cliff. Its been happening to me and my friends since November whenever we try to play quarantine zone. As recently as a week ago, me and my friends ran into that bug again. Its one of the many problems with this collections campaign, campaign playlists, and online co-op that needs addressing but have been ignored since the game came out.

This is still a problem. My friend and I got desynchronized two nights ago. He went to watch the terminal but we had not cleared out the room and he died and respawned in his own copy of the level.

“Players are split up into different game worlds with the other controlled by a dummy ai that gets itself killed by shooting randomly or running to its death off a cliff.”
No, the character is actually being controlled by your buddy. In his copy, he should have been running around in some area (probably not where you saw him), but his button presses were still being relayed to you, so if he turns right on his screen, he should still turn right on your screen. My buddy has a video of me picking up a rocket launcher from nowhere (it was there in my copy). I could watch him fight, but he was just in a hallway, slashing at the walls with a sword.

We tried to lead each other through on our screen, but the geometry was offset enough no such progression was possible. Simultaneous kill+suicides did not resynch us or even spawn us together.

That wasn’t the case for me or my friends. No matter what happens even when we were de-synced and standing still discussing what to do now, the other guy’s character would still be running off in one direction, etc. We weren’t watching each other play in our world or each other’s button presses being replayed back to us, we were watching the other repeat the same action we were previously doing the moment before the de-sync occurred with no change in movement or action. It must have been different for you. This problem has been a pain to deal with on co-op, and now others are saying they getting the same problem on other missions like Oracle.
See: HALO 2 COOP THE ORACLE GLITCH

Still I’m gonna keep playing the waiting game on 343 to actually address these issues, maybe I’ll will or maybe I’ll be stuck waiting indefinitely. Maybe a picture of a sad puppy wanting to play online co-op will motivate 343 to address these issues, lol.

Had this problem happen with a friend today, although it’s novelty was hilarious for us. We managed to both get ourselves and the unsynced “AI” into the same room, and with some luck and directing each other, we managed to use the corner of a door as a point of reference to ‘resync’. It was actually working, but as soon as one of us died, it desynced again. For us it was a cool experience, but I can see how that would be an issue when going for legendary.

Yeah I get this problem almost every time and it tends to be the last half of the mission when this happens, the only thing I can suggest is not die but I know that is stupidly hard on legendary.

I played this level a total of of 4 times co-op, and it’s happened every time!

All played in Online 2 player co-op of course;
November - Heroic play through
May- Par Time
June - Par Score
July - collecting the Tartarus Toy

I play with my fiancée, and even though we have comfortably completed every halo game ever in legendary co-op we have no interest in attempting Halo 2 MCC knowing the difficulty of the game itself and it’s very annoying and game breaking bugs.

Between Halo 4 and this it has killed my friends and my Fiancée’s enthusiasm for playing halo co-op and MP, and without these, Halo is a hallow experience.
