We play together all the time, but if I see a JIP match loading up I do the back-out trick so as to avoid a mid-game join, but if my friend says the match has only just started I attempt to get back in but it doesn’t work - I just end up sitting in the queue lobby - even though there’s an open slot in his match. Even going through the Xbox Guide and joining his game that way doesn’t work.
Any ideas?
Okay it’s not only happening when I’ve backed out from a JIP match. If anyone on my friends list is in a game already and they are displayed as joinable it simply will not put me in their match. I just have to wait in the queue lobby till they’ve finished and then we are good for the next game. But why can’t I join a friend using the JIP system - and yet I get thrown into unwanted JIP matches with randoms all the time?
What’s going on? Is this a bug?

I know there are open slots in the match because my friend (and also my brother) tell me so… on their headsets…
Sometimes this happens to me. So I just leave the queue wait about a minute or so then try again. Normally that helps me. If not try these tricks see if they help. Try going all the way back the the Main Menu see if that helps. If not sign out and back in real quick to see if that works.
I had this problem in Halo 2.
This is the best advice I can give. I hope it works. Kinda seems like a lot of work.
